James D. Age-89 San Juan Pueblo Spears

James D. Spears, 89, a resident of San Juan Pueblo passed away at home on Wednesday, June 15, 2011 after a lengthy illness. James was born in Peach Springs, Arizona to James C. and Genery Spears on April 5, 1922. Jim was a great cowboy. A calf roper, team roper, and quite the bronc rider in his day. He finally got throwed. He was a welder and a contractor for Southern Union Gas Co. His business was Spears Welding Shop. He was in business from 1954 until 1979. Jim was preceded in death by his loving wife Joe Ann in 2008; son, Danny in 2000. Surviving Jim is his care taker and loving son, Edward Spears; loving daughter, Sydney; brother, Charles W. Spears and wife Eleanor of Tuson, AZ; daughter-in-law, Christine Spears; 6 grandchildren: Shaunna, Nicholas, Casey, Kyle, Jaemi and Ray; 4 great-grandchildren & one on the way; many nieces/nephews & other loving family and friends. Cremation is being planned. Memorial service will be held on Friday, June 24, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Peace at DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory. The family of James Spears has entrusted the care of their loved one to DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Española Valley.
