James Vigil

d. April 3, 2022

Dear Family and Friends,

James P. Vigil, of Chimayo, New Mexico, was born into this world on November 4, 1967, and because of a surprising illness, he left this world to meet his Creator on April 3, 2022. When James was called, he was released from all the pain he was suffering with.

When James arrived at his eternal home, he was welcomed by his beautiful mother Gloria Michealene Maestas, maternal grandparents Mike Maestas and Irene Sandoval, paternal grandfather Pete Levi Vigil, his brother: Johnny “Red” Sandoval, Tommy J. Vigil,  and many other relatives.

Many are surprised with James answering his call the way he did, but we know he lived each day to the fullest. James has been working in the construction industry for over 40 years. We have seen this man lift giant boulders, kiva beams, basically a superhero. Our Superman. James was really devoted to his craftsmanship and looked at his work as art. He was so versatile and imaginative. But his true artistic self comes with his passion for his Oldsmobile Cutlass. From bumper-to-bumper James used his great imagination to design his cars in a true representation of himself. James also loved telling jokes and making people laugh. Always made someone smile and brighten their day with a little remark. Everyone that spoke to James knew his two boys meant the world to him and was very proud to brag about the accomplishments they made.

While James is celebrating in paradise, he has left behind a lot of people who love him, like his sons Jonathan (Elena) Vigil and Christian (Leah) Velarde, his father Jimmy (Helen) Vigil and Grandmother Adelia Vigil of Chimayo, his girlfriend Rita Romero and stepdaughter Alicia (Emmanuel) Trujillo. Grandchildren: Jayden Vigil, Lailani Velarde, Makayla “Kiki” Herrera, Isaiah Trujillo, and Lillyana Trujillo, and Kaleo “James” Velarde. Aunts: Jovita (Niko) Casillas, Louise (Pat) Trujillo, Marie Carter, and Frances Vigil. Uncles: Leonard Sandoval, Julian (Evelyn) Sandoval, Rudy (Marcy) Maestas, Benny Vigil, Pete (Shirley) Vigil and David (Veronica) Vigil.

James is also survived by numerous cousins and friends who love him very much and will cherish all the wonderful memories and fun times.

A memorial service is scheduled for Friday, April 8th, 2022, at 4:00 PM at The New Creation Church in Espanola, NM. Celebration of James’s life will be held after also at New Creation Church.
