Jacob “Jake” Maestas, 35, a resident of Hernandez, passed away on Tuesday, May 24, 2016. Jacob was a loving father and he enjoyed spending time outdoors, camping and fishing. He was an avid 49er fan. He enjoyed auto mechanics and he took great pride in the art he created. He loved spending time with his family; most of all with his children. Jacob will be remembered for his caring nature, his selfless generosity, and his incredible sense of humor; always bringing a smile to the faces of those around him. Jacob was preceded in death by his brothers, Michael Maestas and Charlie Maestas; his maternal great-grandmother, Elena Gallegos; paternal grandparents, Jacobo and Lydia Maestas; his God-brother, Lee Quintana Jr., and many more beloved family members. He is survived by his parents, Joann Lopez Maestas and Michael Maestas; his maternal grandmother, Susan Gallegos Batista; his Godparents, Jackie and Lee Quintana; his daughters, Arianna, Alyssa, and Cheyenne Maestas; his son, Jacob Maestas Jr.; his sisters, Michelle Archuleta (Gene) and Bobbie Jo Maestas; his brothers, Vicente Maestas and Mikel Croft, as well as many more family members and individuals whom he loved dearly. Public visitation will begin Saturday, June 4, 2016 at 9:00 a.m. at the San Jose Catholic Church in Hernandez, with a wake service to follow at 10:00 a.m., Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. with the burial to follow at the San Jose Catholic cemetery. Serving the family as pallbearers are Evaristo Lopez, Vicente Maestas, Michael Archuleta, Carl and James Padilla, Willie Batista, Harold Bustos, and Daniel Trujillo. Honorary pallbearers are Arianna, Alyssa, Jacob Jr., and Cheyenne Maestas, Mikel Croft, Michelle Gene, Nevaeh, Gianna, and Vicente Jr., Bobbie Jo Maestas, Dominique and Mckaylah Maestas. The family of Jacob “Jake” Maestas has entrusted the care of their loved one to the DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Española Valley.
