IVAN BALDONADO

It is with heavy hearts, that we announce the passing of our beloved Ivan Baldonado, age 37, of El Rito/Servilleta, NM. Ivan was called home with our dear Lord on Wednesday, March 29, 2023.

Ivan was born on June 17, 1985, in Espanola, NM, to Matthew and Priscilla Baldonado. Ivan, also known as “Sly” was very proud of his nickname and often introduced himself as just that, “Sly.” Ivan will always be remembered for his mischievous smile and his outgoing personality. As “travieso” as he was, Ivan was always very respectful and everyone knew him to have a kind heart. He cared deeply about everyone. Ivan enjoyed working alongside with his dad at Matt’s Windows and Glass and was always prompt at work and often called dad to see why everyone else was running late. He enjoyed his visits to Servilleta Plaza to visit with his mamacita and often referred to this little town as his “pedacito de gloria” (little piece of heaven). Ivan enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, and everyone who knew Ivan, knew that he “brought life to the party.” Ivan enjoyed fishing, camping and listening to his Insane Clown Posse (ICP) music. Ivan had enormous compassion for his dogs, Princess and Kemo and his cat, Duke.

Ivan is preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Dennis and Manuelita Pena, paternal grandparents, Horacio and Eva Baldonado, brother Armando Martinez, maternal uncles Dennis Jr., Julian and Luis Pena and Jonathan Jaramillo, and maternal aunt Angelina Tena. 

Ivan is survived by his parents, Priscilla Irene Baldonado, and Matthew and Ida Baldonado; his companion of 7 years, Francine Montoya and her daughters, who he considered as his own, Anna and Rosalee; brothers, Epifanio/Sophia Baldonado, Andrew Martinez; nephews, Matthew Baldonado, Armando and Cruz Martinez; and nieces, Ariana Lopez and Esperanza Martinez; maternal aunts, Veronica, Margie and Renee Pena and Theresa Parlante; maternal uncle, Jaime Tena; paternal uncles Joel/Mary, Norbert/Jeanell and Abenicio/Susie Baldonado; paternal aunts, Elva/Rudy Montoya, Bernice/John McCann, and Delilah/Toby Velarde; and uncle Pat and Jennifer Martinez and aunt Nora Marquez; his little buddy Keyshawn Alire, and his co-worker Tim Beggio. He is also survived by many close cousins, family and friends. Ivan had a very special bond with his brothers, Epi and Andrew, and his nephew, Matt-Matt. Ivan will be greatly missed by his parents, his brothers, nephews/nieces and the entire Baldonado/Pena family.

Public visitation will begin at 6:00 pm with a Devotional Service to begin at 6:30 pm at DeVargas Funeral Home in Espanola, NM on April 13, 2023.  A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, April 14, 2023, at 12:00 pm at DeVargas Funeral Home in Espanola, NM with burial to follow at the Servilleta Catholic Cemetery.
 
Serving as Pallbearers are Lemuel Baldonado, Chris Lopez, Sixto Aguirre, Isaac Jaramillo, Evan Jaramillo, James Tena, Dylan Pena and Keyshawn Alire.  Honorary Pallbearers are Timothy Pena and Jericho Miera.
