Ignacio Victor Lucero, Jr., age 78, passed away on March 28, 2026, in Española, New Mexico. He was born on February 21, 1948, in Las Vegas, New Mexico.
Ignacio was preceded in death by his parents, Ignacio V. Lucero, Sr., and Josephine Jones Vigil, and by his father‑ and mother‑in‑law, Jake and Lourdes Maestas.
A devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, Ignacio centered his life around the people he loved. Survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Mary. Together, they built a strong and loving family that was the center of Ignacio’s life. He is also survived by his children: Yvette (Thomas), Michelle (Raymond), and Michael (Jessica); and his cherished grandchildren, Ethan, Liam, and Charlotte, who brought him great pride and joy. Ignacio is further survived by his siblings: Consuelo, Christine, Barbara, Janette, and John (Emily), along with his treasured feline accomplice, Batty Kota.
As a young man, Ignacio proudly served as a member of the New Mexico Army National Guard. He was a faithful member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish, where his Catholic faith remained an important part of his life. For many years, he served as a Eucharistic Minister and was a member of the Blessed Sacrament Adoration.
Ignacio spent his career working in the construction industry, serving in various capacities over the years. He was known for his strong work ethic, practical skills, and willingness to lend a hand whenever needed. Beyond his work, he was a man of knowledge and stories, always ready to share what he knew – with those who asked, and sometimes with those who didn’t.
Ignacio leaves behind many nieces, nephews, godchildren, and friends who will remember him for his wisdom, humor, generosity, and quiet, yet unmistakable, presence.
A Rosary will be held at Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish in Espanola, NM, on Monday, April 13, 2026, at 9:30 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. Interment to take place at a future date.
