Hugh J. Karr, loving husband, father, grandfather and friend, passed away peacefully at home on November 10, 2015 at the age of 99.
Hugh was born on January 17, 1916 to Hugh and Lola Hefner Karr in LaSalle, Illinois. He first met his beloved wife, Mae Frances Mullin (Fran), riding a street car to school. He waited for her to complete school and then they dated and were married in 1942. They shared over 73 years together.
Hugh joined the Navy in 1942 and served during WWII in the Pacific on the U.S.S. Enterprise. During his service, he also obtained his PhD in physics at Washington University and taught at Harvard, MIT, and Cambridge before moving to Los Alamos in 1949. He worked at the Los Alamos National Laboratory for 28 years before retiring to enjoy traveling with Fran, fishing, and hiking with his dog.
Hugh is survived by his wife Fran, their daughter Leslee, and their granddaughter Stasia. The family would like to express their deepest appreciation for the Los Alamos Fire Department, the Visiting Nurses, and all of Hugh's amazing caregivers from Home Instead as well as Skye.
