Herman P. Maestas, a United States Army veteran of the Korean War where he achieved the rank of Sergeant First Class, passed away peacefully in his long time Espanola, NM home on November 10, 2021, at the age of 93.
He was born on September 19, 1928, to Alberto and Fabriciana Maestas in Leadville, Colorado. He and his family moved to Denver where he graduated from North High school before enlisting in the Army. Upon returning to Denver after his service, he met and married his wife of 67 years, Sylvia Gonzales. In the late 1950s he moved with his wife and sons to Espanola, NM where he worked at the Espanola Hospital. In 1969, he and Sylvia opened Pueblo Flowers, which they operated for many years. In addition, he worked for Montgomery Ward in Santa Fe and later in Los Alamos until his retirement. He was a member of both the Lions Club and Knights of Columbus, serving as the Grand Knight in 1963-64.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 67 years Sylvia Maestas; parents Alberto and Fabriciana Maestas;brothers John, David, Albert, Eddie, and Robert Maestas and sister, Mary Ulibarri.
He is survived by his five children, sons Lawrence and Yifang Mao-Maestas of La Quinta, CA, Stephan and Elizabeth Maestas of Espanola, Thomas and Darlene Maestas of Santa Fe, Christopher and Renee Maestas of Loveland, CO, daughter, Mariadele and Perry Vigil of Espanola, and siblings William Maestas, Charles Maestas and Angie Martinez, all of Denver, CO, and brother-in-law Ralph Gonzales and wife Mae of Denver, CO.
Grandchildren: Ian Maestas and wife Marcella, Michaela Maestas, Marqueta Saenz and husband Carlos, Rachael Maestas and partner Cale Patterson, Michelle Salado and husband Steve, Samuel Maestas, Matthew Salazar, Madalene Rodriguez-McVay, Matthew Vigil, Jordan Vigil, Nicholas Vigil, Santiago Archuleta, Mateo Gallegos, Christopher Michael Maestas, Cooper Maestas and Grayson Maestas; Great grandchildren Adrian Maestas, Peyton Maestas, Kaylee Livermore, Lauren Salado, Steven “JJ” Salado, Aurora Rodriguez-McVay and numerous nephews, nieces, relatives and friends.

Services will be held at DeVargas Funeral of Espanola at 1:00 pm with internment to follow at the Santa Fe National Cemetery at 3:00 pm on December 14th, 2021. A reception to follow at Acsent Bible Church which is located at 2076 Galisteo Street, Santa Fe, New Mexico. Serving the family as pallbearers are his grandsons, granddaughters and great grandchildren. The family of Herman P.
