Helen Archuleta

January 3, 2021

Our beloved Helen Archuleta, 81 took her final breath on January 3, 2021, after a long battle with Covid-19. Surrounded by true heroes—the amazing health care workers and staff of Los Alamos Medical Hospital—who worked day in and day out risking their lives fighting to save hers. Although it will be hard to fathom this earthly world without Helen physically here, she is now at eternal peace with God who led her spirit home to heaven and lives on in all those who had the pleasure of knowing her.

Helen leaves behind the love of her life, Videlio “Phil” Archuleta whom she had been married to for 63 years. From fetching pails of water as children to creating a beautiful family, their love was nothing short of true, endless love.

Helen was an anchor of strength within her family, friends, and community. She was the rock that held a family together through her tenacity, faith, and love. She loved being a wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She was a devoted sister to her loving brothers Bill Chavez and his late wife Louise, Manual and Elaine Chavez and her sister-in-law Ernie Chavez, wife of Ross Chavez .

Helen was born in Potrero, NM on August 15, 1939, to Juan R. and Enisdel Chavez. She is survived by her husband, Videlio Archuleta; children, Russell (son) and Theresa Archuleta, Wayne (son) and Doreen Archuleta, and Monica (daughter) and Eddie Duran; grandchildren, Jonathan and wife Ricki, Megan, Rachaud, Jordan, Brandan, and Joshua; great-grandchildren, Marley and Joey.

Helen was preceded in death by her father, Juan; mother, Enisdel Chavez; brothers, Tony and Ross Chavez who welcomed her with loving arms at the gates of heaven.

Helen was a devote believer and member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Los Alamos.

Helen’s last words were “my life here is over, but my eternal life has just begun”.  A virtual Funeral Mass will be held at Holy Family Church in Chimayo at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 8, 2021 at local attendance will be limited to 75 people due to Covid restrictions.
