GILBERT H. TOWLES, 58, a resident of Chimayo, passed away on Tuesday, October 27, 2015 following a year long battle with cancer. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Sinforosa Towles; sister, Teresita (Teddy) Martinez and brother, Roy Towles. Gilbert spent most of his career working for LANL as a machinist. He enjoyed spending his leisure time outdoors, fishing in the mountains, and building things and also enjoyed gardening. He will be truly missed by all those who knew and loved him. Mr. Towles is survived by his wife, Loretta Towles of Chimayo; sons, Leroy Towles and wife Valerie of Cordova and Chris Trujillo and wife Shirley of Velarde; grandchildren, Gerard, Cadence and Kendall Towles; Jessica, Stephanie and Shayla Trujillo; brothers, Douglas Briggs of West Virginia, William D. Towles and wife Jerry of Chimayo, Earl Towles and wife Lina, Stacy Towles all of Cuarteles and Adam Towles and wife Amy of Chimayo; sisters, Angie Sena of Chimayo, Judy Martinez and husband Tony of Alcalde, Debbie Martinez and husband Joseph of Cuarteles, Diana Littleton of Colorado and Sandra Sedillo of Alamogordo and numerous other relatives and friends. Public visitation will begin on Thursday, October 29, 2015 at 6:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Peace of DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian burial to be celebrated on Friday, October 30, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church in Chimayo. Burial to follow at the Nuestra Señora de Dolores Cemetery in Chimayo with the following serving as pallbearers, William D. Towles, Earl Towles, Adam Towles, Senon Vigil, Amos Vigil, Pete Trujillo, Jeff Bryant and Stacy Towles. Honorary pallbearers will be; Jessica, Stephanie and Shayla Trujillo, Gerard, Cadence, Kendall, Adam and Lisa Towles. The family of Gilbert Towles would like to thank all of the staff at St. Vincent Christus Cancer Center, UNM Cancer Center and PCM Staff, especially Fran, during these difficult times.
