Gilbert Aguilar, age 74, born on July 7, 1949, was called home to be with the Lord on March 5, 2024, while surrounded by his wife and daughter. Gilbert was born to Reyesita and Jose Esa Aguilar. He was raised and lived in El Valle, New Mexico.
He was preceded in death by several brothers and sisters, special sister-in-law Oufelia Aguilar, special nephews and niece, Nelson Aguilar, Leroy & Sarah Aguilar.
Gilbert is survived by his wife Naomi of El Valle; daughter Geraldine (Dennis Sr.) of Santa Fe. Grandchildren Dominique, Sarah and Dennis Jr. Gilbert also leaves behind the following godchildren Randy Lopez, Frank Vigil, Vincent Dominguez, Genevieve Fernandez, Ricky and Durine Aguilar. Gilbert leaves behind close compadres Edwin and Shirley Dominguez, Louie and Mildred Aguilar, Nestor Vigil and Juanita Lopez. Gilbert leaves behind many nieces, nephews and family. Gilbert also leaves behind his fur baby Rusty.Gilbert worked in Los Angeles at Mattel. From there he went to work at a smelter in Utah. Gilbert and Naomi moved to Redcliff, Colorado where he worked in the mine in Gilman and construction in Vail and Keystone. Gilbert, Naomi and their daughter moved back to El Valle, New Mexico to care for his dad. Gilbert then went to work for Zia Company in Los Alamos until he got hurt. Gilbert enjoyed politics and served as Democratic Party Precinct Chairman in El Valle for 20 years. Gilbert enjoyed fishing, hunting, going on vacation and the casinos.
Services will be held at 11:00 am on April 3, 2024, at DeVargas Funeral Home. Burial to follow at El Valle Cemetery.
The family would like to thank Dr. Michael Kaufman, Dr. Michael Wagner, Dr. Stephen Lucero, Dr. Fei Gu, Dr. Tudor Ocneanu, Dr. Alfredo Vigil, Dr. Paul De Stefano, his nurse Tammy Metheny, Professional Case Management, and Nicole Scotto of Anvoi Hospice Care.
The following are to serve as honorary pall bearers: Elroy Gonzales, Rudy Lovato, George Trujillo, Oliver Vigil, Pat Aguilar, Ruben Aguilar, George Romero, David Cruz, Joe Muniz, George “Jito” Vasquez, Louie Sanchez and Johnny Sanchez.
