Gilbert Richard Naranjo, 86, beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend, passed into the arms of the Lord on October 2, 2014, with his loving family at his side. Gilbert was preceded in death by his devoted wife Helen, parents Ted and Ellen Naranjo and sister Flora Miakos.\r\nAlthough Gilbert suffered many health conditions throughout the years he always accepted his difficulties courageously and without complaint. He was a strong man of faith and integrity who found joy, humor, and laughter in every day, touching the lives of all he met and leaving these characteristics as an example to his family.\r\nGilbert moved to Los Alamos in the winter of 1947 and was proud to be a resident of his community. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served during the Korean War. He returned to Los Alamos and there met the love of his life, Helen. He worked for The Zia Company until his retirement in 1987.\r\nGilbert is survived by his children; son, Mark and wife Dianna, who lived with and cared for Gilbert during his final months, son, Richard and wife Kelly, son, Albert and wife Bernadette, daughter, Christina Reichelt and husband Steve, and daughter, Laina Livingston and husband Dave. Also surviving him are his grandchildren; Michael Naranjo (Brittney), Matthew Naranjo (Katrina), Dianna Durkin (Danny), Deborah Englert (Matt), Jennifer Naranjo, Alyssa Livingston and Evan Livingston. Other grandchildren include Eve Phillips, Leah Pierce and Charlie Craig, great-grandchildren; Owen Durkin; Mason Englert; Hilary, Hanna, Caleb, Micah and Jacob Phillips; Walker and Pearl Pierce; Silas, Timothy, Ezra, Noah, Abraham, Tobiah, and David Craig; sister, Mary Ann Armijo and husband Ted of San Diego, CA; brother, Carl Naranjo and wife Fedelina of Albuquerque. Many other family, friends and neighbors also survive him. The family would like to offer a very heartfelt thanks to special caregivers Rafaela and Antonio, Debbie Storms and the Los Alamos Visiting Nurses Hospice team and the Nurse in the Family Home Care Service. A rosary will be recited on Wednesday, October 8, 2014 at 9:00 a.m. at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Los Alamos with a funeral service to follow at 10:00 a.m. a reception will follow immediately at the Immaculate Heart of Mary parish hall in Los Alamos. Burial will take place at 3:00 p.m. at the Santa Fe National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family has requested that donations may be made to the Los Alamos visiting nurses. The family of Gilbert Naranjo has entrusted their loved one to DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Española Valley.
