Gilbert Serrano, 78, a resident of Coyote passed away at home on Friday, June 17, 2011. Gilbert was born on February 3, 1933 to Juan Isidro and Ofelia Serrano in Coyote, New Mexico. He was a simple man and enjoyed the little things in life. Mr. Serrano was preceded in death by his parents, Juan Isidro Serrano & Ofelia; brothers: Anselmo & Celerino Serrano; sister, Vivian Mascareñas. Gilbert is survived by his children: Troy and wife Britney Serrano of Salina, UT; Otivia and husband Troy Searle of Lehi, UT; Leonard Serrano of Hotchkiss, CO; Roberto Serrano of Salina, UT; grandchildren: Micala, Addison, Aubree and Cody Serrano; siblings: Isabel and husband Leo Madrid and Rudy Mascareñas; nieces/nephews: Steve and wife Veronica Madrid, Johnny and wife Kathy Madrid, Jason and wife Stephanie Madrid, Jimmy and wife Ramona Mascareñas, Kevin and wife Joyce Serrano, Raymond Serrano, Charles Serrano, Michael Serrano, Leona and husband Gene Lujan, Jeanette Serrano, Corinna and husband Glen Brewer and Lionel Madrid. A special thanks from the family to David and wife Doris Lujan, for taking care of Gilbert in his final days. Also Steve and Veronica Madrid; hospice nurse, Kate Correa; and close friend, Epimenio Lucero. Rosary will be recited on Friday, June 24, 2011 at 7:00 p.m. at San Juan Bautista Catholic Church in Coyote. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Saturday, June 25, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at San Juan Bautista Catholic Church with burial to follow at Coyote Catholic Cemetery. The family of Gilbert Serrano has entrusted the care of their loved one to DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Española Valley.
