\r\n \r\n \r\n \r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n \r\n \r\n \r\n\r\n\r\n \r\n \r\n \r\n \r\n \r\n GARFIELD J. GUTIERREZ, 88, a lifelong resident of El Guache, passed away on Friday, February 19, 2010. He was preceded in death by his parents, Luis and Ercilia Gutierrez; wife, Rita Gutierrez; daughter, Beatrice Lopez; son, Joseph Lopez; sister, Esther Kelley and brother, Virgil Gutierrez. He was a Veteran of WWII and received the Purple Heart Medal and many other Honors. He was an educator and administrator in Northern New Mexico. He enjoyed farming, fishing, hunting and was very active in many community organizations. Mr. Gutierrez is survived by his brother, Hubert Gutierrez and wife Pat of Albuquerque; grandchildren, Renee Kemm of Española, Rita Baca of Albuquerque, Angelica Frias, Alicia Kotier and husband Nelson and Joseph Lopez II and wife Amanda all of Santa Rosa; sister-in-law, Beatrice Gutierrez of Oklahoma; brother-in-law, George Kelly of Albuquerque and many great-grandchildren and other relatives and friends. Public visitation will begin on Monday, February 22, 2010 at 5:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Peace of DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory with a rosary to be recited at 6:00 p.m. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, February 23, 2010 at 9:00 a.m. at the St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Ohkay Owingeh. Burial to follow at 11:00 a.m. at the Santa Fe National Cemetery with the following serving as pallbearers, Leo Valdez Jr., Ben Lopez, Joseph Lopez II, Steven Montoya, Hubert Gutierrez and Armando Lucero. The Gutierrez family has entrusted their loved one to DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Española Valley. \r\n
