Obituary

Frederick "Rudy" Vigil as we all knew him passed away on July 10,2026 at home in Espanola with his family at his side. He was born on March 5th, 1941, to Adeliado and Noberta Vigil in Santo Nino New Mexico.

He was preceded in death by his parent Adeliado and Noberta Vigil his brother’s Gilbert Vigil and wife Virginia, Peter Vigil and wife Carol, his sister Elvira Ogard and his brother in-law Allen Orgard.

Rudy Attended the Espanola schools from 1st grade thru 12th grade. When he graduated in 1959. He then went onto college at Colorado State University in Fort Collins. He then went on to Utah State University in Logan, Utah where he got his B.A. in Agronomy and also his M.S. He got a PHD from North Dakota State University in Fargo N.D.

He went on to get a job with the U.S. Aid Program where he worked for 30 years. He mostly worked in Africa, Latin America and Washington D.C. He and Galina came back to Espanola after he retired. His greatest accomplishment was his sanctuary and shrine that he and Ramon built on his property in Cebolla, NM. He worked on it for over 20 years. 

He is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Galina his daughter Jancie and husband Jose Bravo from North Carolina his grandsons Robert and Marcus, his sister Rita Caccamise form Santa Fe NM, his brother Ralph and wife Gloria from Michigan and his brother Pablo and wife Janie from Las Vegas NM, many nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly. His friend, caretaker and employee caretaker and employee for the past 24 years, Ramon Vigil.

A Rosary will take place on Monday, July 27, 2026, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Espanola, NM at 9:30 a.m. and a Mass to follow at 10:30 a.m. Burial to follow at Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery.

The family of Frederick "Rudy" Vigil has entrusted the care of their loved one to De Vargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the beautiful Espanola Valley 505-747-7477.
