Fred "Lico" Lopez, 81, of Hernandez, New Mexico, passed away peacefully on July 25, 2026.
Lico was a devoted son, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend.
He retired from the Rio Arriba County Planning & Zoning Department in 2006 after many years of dedicated service. A humble man who appreciated life's simple pleasures, Lico enjoyed spending time at the casino with family and friends. Lico was also an avid sports fan. He was well known for his cherished 1934 Ford Coupe and his quiet, gentle demeanor.
Though he was a man of few words, he took great pride in his family and always wanted the very best for each of them.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Emedardo and Sofia Lopez; his sister, Sylvia Martinez; his brothers-in-law, Michael Salazar and Nestor Martinez; his sister-in-law, Carolina Lopez; his son-in-law, Kenny Rougemont; and many dear friends.
Lico is survived by his daughter, Annette Rougemont; his son, Eric Lopez (Tracy) of Guachupangue; his granddaughters, Nina Rougemont of Albuquerque, whom he raised as his own daughter, and Ashtyn Lopez of Guachupangue; and his great-grandchildren, Evan and Jenesis Martinez, and Weston Lopez.
He is also survived by his brother, Horrace Lopez; his sisters, Lala Trujillo, Aurelia Fernandez (Juan), and Delfinia Salazar; his godson, Kenny Salazar; and many beloved nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
Lico will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
A Public Visitation will take place on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, at 5:00 pm, in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home in Espanola, NM, followed by a Celebration of Life at 6:00 pm.
A Funeral Mass will take place on Thursday, August 6, 2026, at 9:30 am, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Espanola, NM. Burial will follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery.
Honorary Pallbearers are his granddaughters, Nina Rougemont and Ashtyn Lopez; his great-grandchildren, Evan and Jenesis Martinez, and Weston Lopez; his Godson, Kenny Salazar; and his nieces, Sharron Trujillo and Brenda Gurule.
