Francisco “Xavier” Garcia
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Francisco “Xavier” Garcia, on June 7, 2026. Xavier was born on December 14, 1957, to Apolonio “Paul” and Nora Garcia.
Xavier was, in every sense, a mountain man. He found peace and purpose in the outdoors, whether hunting, fishing, or simply being surrounded by nature. It was there that his strength, patience, and appreciation for life truly showed. But as much as he loved the mountains, nothing ever came before his family. They were his foundation, his pride, and his greatest joy. He was committed to his family and treasured his grandchildren, supporting their achievements with his presence cheering loud so they would know he was present.
Known for his quick wit and dry humor, Xavier had a response for everything—often delivered with perfect timing and just the right edge to make you smile or shake your head. His humor was never loud or showy, it was part of what made him so uniquely “X”. Beyond his humor and strength, Xavier had a generous heart, always willing to lend a helping hand, frequently without being asked and without expecting anything in return. He was an architect and a perfectionist, regularly involving himself in all aspects of construction. It was not uncommon to see him chucking adobes or helping dig footings. Favorite projects included the construction of the Meditation Jacalito and reconstruction of the bell tower at Holy Cross, as well as the construction of the Mision y Convento in his community. He showed up for people when it mattered most, his acts of quiet kindness will not be forgotten. Xavier lived a life rooted in love, honesty, and simple, enduring values. He leaves behind not only memories, but a legacy in the lives he touched through his family, his friendships, and the countless lives touched through his talents and generosity.
He shared a lifelong love with his high school sweetheart, Judy, a bond that stood the test of time and became a quiet example of commitment, loyalty, and deep affection. Together, they built a life grounded in love and resilience.
Xavier wass preceded in death by his parents Apolonio “Paul” and Nora Garcia; brothers Reuel Garcia and Flavio Garcia; Special Niece Nakita Romero Garcia; Father-in-law Jose B. Espinoza; Sister-in-law Carmen Espinoza Quintana; his grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Xavier is survived by his wife, Judy Garcia; his sons, Xavier F. Garcia II, wife Julianna; Xacarias “Xac” Garcia, wife Patricia; grandchildren Faith, Joseph, Xavier, Zoey, Lilianna and Xander; Stepmother Loretto Garcia; siblings Apolonio Garcia (Miae); Maria Elena Gurule (Elibeto); Bianca Lucero (Anthony); Maria Feliz Romero (Gerald); Mauro Garcia (Nina); Ken Quintana, (Beatrice); Michael Quintana, (Valerie); Elizabeth Zunshine, (Phillip); Mother-in-law Genoveva Espinoza; Sister-in-law Barbara Garcia; Lucy Maestas (Frank); and Brother-in-law Steve Quintana. Xavier is also survived by numerous nephews and nieces that were very special to him.
