Frances Gomez Quintana

On October 30, 2023, our matriarch, Francesquita (Frances) Gomez Quintana passed away peacefully at her home in El Rancho, NM.  Little did we know this remarkable woman would live to celebrate 102 years of life. 

Frances was a stylish and sophisticated woman, who was always dressed to the nines. She was beautiful inside and out and carried a selfless story that reflects generations of change over the course of 102 years.  

Frances was born on October 28, 1921, to Pedro R. Gomez from El Rancho, New Mexico and Leandra Montoya Gomez from San Ildefonso, New Mexico.  She was the oldest of ten children, who she all took part in raising.  Frances had an incomparable skillset that surpassed her knowledge gained from living on a farm, she prided herself in her experiences and built a fascinating career at Los Alamos National Laboratory.  But even more than her involvements in Los Alamos, Frances illuminated as a mother and grandmother, she taught people closest to her what care, bundled in strength looked like. 

Frances is reunited with those who have passed before her:  husband Celestino Quintana, sons Dennis and Joseph, brothers Lorretto, Simon and Gilbert, and parents Pedro and Leandra Gomez. 

She is survived by her son Celestino R. Sr.  and wife Melva, daughter Glenda and husband Raymond DePaula, five grandchildren Deanna Urrutia, Bobby Quintana, Leandra Trujillo, Daniel DePaula and Felicia DePaula, 10 great grandchildren and 1 great great-grandson and siblings Lydia Martinez, Pete Gomez, Viola Salazar, Flora (Leo) Martinez and Gustavo (Charlotte) Gomez. 

The Family would like to extend their THANK YOU’S to Amber Care Hospice, nurse Anna Mae and Frances’, caretakers Maria Herrera and Maureen Vigil.  In addition to Frances’ prior caretakers Velia, Cynthia, Veronica, Lilliauna, and Mryna.

Services: Family and Friends viewing at 6:00 pm and Rosary following at 7:00 pm, on Monday, November 6, 2023, at DeVargas Funeral Home, Espanola, NM.   A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Tuesday, November 7, 2023, at Nuestra Senora de Guadalupe in Pojoaque at 10:00 am, and burial to follow at the Santa Fe National Cemetery at 1:00 pm.  

Serving as Pallbearers: Daniel DePaula, Jonah Urrutia, Leandra Trujillo, Felicia DePaula, Adrian Quintana and John Peter Gomez.
