Evelyn Diane Maestas (Martinez), age 61, passed away on September 13, 2025, after a brief illness, leaving this world to join her Heavenly Father and beloved husband, son, mother and other loved ones long missed.

Evelyn was born and raised in La Puebla, New Mexico, on February 23, 1964, the youngest child of Ernesto J. and Lupita T. Martinez. She attended Espanola Valley High School, where she met the love of her life, Anthony Bonifacio Maestas. They were married for 41 years and adored each other. Together, Evelyn and Anthony built a loving life, raising their only child and son Adam Anthony Maestas. Anthony and Adam were proud tribal members of Ohkay Owingeh, and Evelyn spent her adult life living among Ohkay community, where she was embraced and loved.

Evelyn dedicated 16 years of service to the State of New Mexico Motor Vehicle Division, followed by 24 years at Ohkay Hotel Casino under Tsay Corporation. Known for her strong work ethic, generosity, and deep compassion, Evelyn made a lasting impression on all who knew her.

Evelyn was a beautiful, kind, thoughtful, generous and loving person. She loved her many companion pets. She found true happiness in the simple things in life and especially being with her family.

Family was Evelyn’s greatest joy. She was always there to lend a helping hand, to help care for her elderly parents, even when her own health made it difficult. She loved and valued her family deeply and was especially devoted to her husband, son, grandchildren and great-grandchild, who were the light of her life.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her mother Lupita T. Martinez; her parents-in-law Linda and Jose Alfredo Maestas; her beloved husband Anthony Bonifacio Maestas; and her son Adam Anthony Maestas.

She is survived by her 93 year-old father Ernesto J. Martinez; her brothers George Michael Martinez (Bernadette) and Joseph Patrick Martinez (Sandra); nieces Monica Martinez (Aiden Bransford), Kathleen Golik (Konrad, Kaden, Kayla and Kiera), Ashley Angel (Carlos and Angelica); her brothers-in-laws Edgar Cata (ReyAnn) and Alfred Maestas Jr. (Stacy), sister-in-law Rosemary Swazo (Sonny), aunties Frances Cata, Doris Vigil (Tony, Karen, Kim, and Linea), Irene Cata and family, her grandchildren Danielle Maestas and Malachi; and her great-granddaughter Melani Rose. She also leaves behind many extended family members and friends who will remember her with love, warmth, and gratitude.

Evelyn will be deeply missed, but we take comfort knowing she is in God’s glory with the people she loved and who loved her.

A private burial was held on Saturday, October 25, 2025, in Ohkay Owingeh where she was reunited and buried alongside her husband and son.

May the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, comfort all who mourn her passing and may Evelyn’s soul rest in eternal light and joy in the presence of our Heavenly Father. Amen.

The family of Evelyn Maestas has entrusted the care of their loved one to DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the beautiful Espanola Valley.  505-747-7477
