Eugenio Lujan

d. November 25, 2019

Eugenio Edmundo (Gene Edmund) Luján, 82, of Round Rock, Texas, passed away on Monday, November 25th, 2019, in Round Rock, surrounded by family and friends.

Gene was born at home in Taos, New Mexico on October 30th, 1937, to Edmund Luján and Clotilda Mares.  Gene graduated from Los Alamos High School in Los Alamos, New Mexico in 1956.  During his high school years, Gene enjoyed being a member of the Lettermen’s Club, the Olions Thespian Club, Chorus, and the football team, along with earning a medal as a pole vaulter on the track team.

Immediately after high school graduation, Gene eagerly began his service to our country in the United States Navy.  He served from 1956 to 1962 and was especially proud of his duty as a Class C Advanced Sonar Operator aboard the U.S.S. Blandy DD-943.

Gene married Amelia Garcia on December 29th, 1962, in Aurora, Colorado.  Together, they enjoyed raising their four children, spending their leisure time boating, playing many sports (water skiing, snow skiing, snorkeling, tennis, swimming, basketball, baseball, bowling, running, etc.), camping, and traveling by car to visit extended family while delighting in sights along the journeys. Gene also shared his passion for science, nature, and space with his family.

In his professional life, Gene was a successful Network Engineer in the Telecommunications Industry.  Working for various corporations, Gene installed mainframe computers in exciting places such as The Pikes’ Peak Observatory, NASA, and White Sands Missile Range. Ultimately, he retired as a Network Engineer with the State of New Mexico.

Always an adventurer, for his 50th birthday, Gene celebrated by earning his Private Pilot license for single engine airplanes.  For his 70th birthday, Gene celebrated by going on his first ever tandem skydive.  Gene will be fondly remembered for his zest for adventure, quick wit, and relentless sense of humor.

Gene is preceded in death by his wife Amelia Garcia Luján, his parents Edmund Luján and Clotilda Mares, his sister Carolina Luján, and his brother Julian John “Noochie” / “JJ” Luján.

Gene is survived by his three sons and one daughter: Raymond Roger Luján of Hutto, TX, Miguel Edmundo Luján (wife Carla Sue Luján) of Round Rock, TX, and Sigfredo Eugenio Luján of Round Rock, TX, and Lisa Veronica Hasch (husband Bruce Michael Hasch) of Pearland, TX.  He is also survived by two brothers and one sister: San Victoriano Lejon of Salt Lake City, UT, Charles William Luján of Hernandez, NM, and Agnes Olsen of Santa Cruz, NM.  He is survived by nine grandchildren: Jenniemarie Luján, Maxwell Hoyne Luján, Elias Michael Luján, Isaac Benny Luján, Analisa Amelia Luján, Briana Lisa Bachicha, Tory Sigfredo Luján, Austin Joseph Hasch, and Amelia Pearl Hasch and eight great-grandchildren: Amelia Karina Luján, Ryder Maxwell Luján, Rhett Doyle Luján, Riley Daniel Luján, Ava Jade Luján, Freya Elizabeth Messner-Luján, Isaiah Roman Bachicha, and Zoe Grace Bachicha.
