Guevara
d. Jun 11, 2026
Holy Family Church Parish Hall
11:15 am - 12:15 pm (Mountain time)
Eucario Regalado Guevara, also known to many as "Carl", passed away peacefully on June 11, 2026, at age 86, while at home surrounded by his loving family. He was born on April 11, 1940, in Arabela, NM, Lincoln County; raised in the small town of Hagerman, NM, and spent most of his life in Albuquerque, NM. He is preceded in death by this father, Cruz Guevara; mother Rosa Regalado; brothers George, Frutoso, Ismael and Clovis; sisters Julia Flores and Soila Flores. Carl is survived by his loving wife, Cloraida Trujillo Guevara, daughters Elizabeth (Lisa) Moreland, husband Jeff; Liana Hartlep, husband Thomas; grandchildren Triana Valentina Gisela, 9 and Klaus Cruz 9; and sister Viola Martinez. He has many loving nieces, nephews and cousins who had a special place in his heart.
Carl attended Hagerman High School and was a proud Bobcat. He played the saxophone in the band and participated in many school and community clubs and activities. He was selected to lead the Catholic youth group in the greater Hagerman-Dexter area when he began his ministry with the Catholic Church. He received a Bachelors of Arts degree in teaching from Eastern New Mexico University and was a fraternity brother with Pi Kappa Alpha. Carl also attended Highlands University and the University of New Mexico where he received his Masters degree. He was employed by the Albuquerque Public Schools (APS) and worked over 35+ years as a teacher and Counselor. While an educator with APS, he taught Spanish at Garfield Middle School and was a guidance counselor at Manzano High School. He was passionate about his job and cared deeply about his students whether it was seeking scholarships, acceptance to university/trade schools, or listening to their concerns. He was proud of his Hispanic heritage and led the Chicano club at Manzano High School in the 1970’s instilling pride in the youth. After retirement, he worked as a substitute teacher for language arts classes and special education program at Valley High School.
An honor and a major highlight in Carl’s life was representing New Mexico and the United States abroad in Alcala, Spain at the Universidad de Alcala de Henares. He was selected under an educator's program as an "educator ambassador" for Spain spending two summers learning about the Spanish educational system, the history of the country, and culture of the Spaniards. The purpose of the program was to return to the United States and educate others about Spain and its reasons to travel/tour the country. Traveling to Spain gave Carl and his wife Cloraida a greater love, knowledge, and experience with other cultures around the globe.
When Carl and his wife Cloraida moved to Albuquerque in 1967, they became members of St. Therese Catholic Church shortly thereafter. Carl was a life-long member of the Knights of Columbus and a choir member for several years. In the early 1980’s, he coordinated the entertainment for the St. Therese Fiestas, which he thoroughly enjoyed. He was a faithful, loving and dedicated man.
Carl loved the Arts - he enjoyed music, singing and dancing, especially in recent years. He played the saxophone, piano, and guitar very well. Carl was so proud of Michael Sanchez, who is the family attorney. Michael was a student of Carl in his Spanish class at Garfield Middle School. He was so proud of Micheal and his accomplishments in becoming a prominent lawyer and local talented musician. Carl would listen to KANW, a local Spanish music station, just to hear Micheal’s lastest music.
Carl shared the joy of photography with his son in-law Thomas and they captured amazing shots of nature and fun times at family events. His passion for Lobo basketball was immeasurable. He and son-in-law Jeff shared this passion every time they watched the games together in their Lobo attire. He teased his niece Valerie each Christmas giving her Lobo paraphernalia knowing she was a dedicated NM State Aggies fan. His pride and joy was being with his precious twin grandchildren when they would visit during the holidays --- a legacy he desired and loved.
Carl’s memory will be cherished by all those whose lives he touched. He will be missed but never forgotten.
