Estrella Shay Fernandez was born 1/29/2020 in Albuquerque, NM to Allyson Fernandez and Orlando Hernandez Del Castillo, passed away 4/28/26 at UNM Hospital in Albuquerque, NM resulting from complications from a Respiratory Chronic Condition from birth.

Preceded in Death by her beloved Grandpa Allen Ferndandez Sr., brother Henry Hernandez Del Castillo, Great Grandfathers Leo Fernandez and Juan Romero, and Great Aunt Norma Fernandez.

She lived in Albuquerque with her parents for the first 2 ½ years of her life afterwards moved permanently with her mother to Vadito, NM

She was named by her mother; it was the perfect name for a bright shining star who lit up the world and enchanted everyone in her path, spirit shined so brightly, everyone around her wanted to take a picture, trying to capture her radiant smile and explosive personality, so photogenic, her family and friends took pictures and videos of her most days.

Loved to sing, dance, and perform for her family. Lately learned cartwheels, was known to cartwheel her way through home and school, proud of her accomplishment.

She loved with all her heart, family, friends, teachers, and coaches. Greeting everyone with a smile, hello, and often with a hug.

She was an intelligent child, extremely good at math, always ready to share her knowledge, often astounding adults with her advanced and colorful vocabulary.

Regardless of her medical struggles, excelled in sports and participated in Tee-baseball, Gymnastics, Cheerleading, and Basketball.

Estrella was loved greatly by her parents, family and friends, leaving behind countless broken hearts.

Survived by her parents Allyson Fernandez, Orlando Hernandez Del Castillo and brother Orlando Del Castillo Jr.

Maternal- survived by her Great Grandmothers Julia Fernandez and Georgina Romero, Grandmother Sharon Fernandez, Special Aunt Jane Fernandez, Godmother Brianna Sanchez, Uncles and Godfathers Allen Fernandez Jr (Missy) and Timothy Fernandez, Great Uncles Eddy Romero and Juan Romero (Carla), Leo Fernandez, and Joseph Fernandez, Great Aunt Lorrie Romero (Joe), Close Cousins Anthony Sanchez, Leandra Romero, Jeremiah Romero and Josiah Houghs.

Paternal- Grandfather and Grandmother Hernandez Del Castillo, two Nephews Hernandez Del Castillo, 6 Uncles Hernandez Del Castillo, 2 Aunts Hernandez Del Castillo, and many other family and friends.

A Public Viewing will take place on Thursday May 28, 2026, at 10:00 am, with a memorial service to follow at 10:30 am, in the Sangre De Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home. A Burial will take place on Friday May 29, 2026, at the Rio Lucio Cemetery with procession to start at DeVargas Funeral Home at 1:30pm and Burial to take place at 3:00pm.
