Ernest H. Sandoval, age 69, a life-long resident of Chimayo, New Mexico, entered the gates of Heaven surrounded by his loving family on Thursday, December 5, 2019, following a short and sudden illness. Ernest was a life-long member of the Holy Family Catholic Church in Chimayo and also of the Coro de Nuestra Senora de Guadalupe y San Jose in Chimayo. Ernest was committed to his Catholic faith an honest and amicable person who enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and growing his garden every summer to share his produce with family and friends. He considered his children, grandchildren, and his family the most important things in his life. He graduated from Santa Cruz High School and then received Certificates from New Mexico Technical Vocational Institute in Auto Body Mechanics and Clerk Steno. Ernest then went on to work for the State of New Mexico Human Services Department where he received many commendations from Governor Bruce King. Ernest retired from the State of New Mexico after 25 years of service in 1996. Ernest was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Julian and Tecla Martinez, paternal grandparents, Santiago and Delfinia Sandoval; father, Ernesto T. Sandoval; daughter, (who he referred to as his princess) Jessica Angelique Sandoval; niece and nephews, Sarah Faith Sandoval, Joseph Levi Martinez, and Ike Sandoval. Ernest is survived by the light in his life, his son, Eric Sandoval and wife Naomi and his grandchildren, Dylan, Audrina, and Logan of Rio Rancho; his beloved mother (his mamacita), Louisa Sandoval; brothers, Arturo Sandoval, Tony Sandoval (Elaine), Isaac Sandoval (Cindy); his sister, Lucille Sanchez (Victor). He is also survived by nieces and nephews, Antoinette Sanchez (Norman), godchild Beverly Sandoval (Ivan Lopez), Mark Sandoval (Amanda Manzanares), Tara Sandoval; godchild, Maria Sandoval; great nieces and nephews, Norman, Samantha, and Jacob Sanchez, Aubrey and Marcus Sandoval and Kaitlyn Garcia. He is also survived by close friends, Ruben Coriz and Albert, Henry, and David Martinez and many other aunts, uncles, relatives and friends. Ernest was greatly loved and admired and considered the pillar of his family. His family is deeply saddened by his sudden illness and passing. He leaves a huge void in all of our hearts. Public visitation will begin at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 10, 2019 in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory with a Rosary to follow at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, December 11, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Family Parish in Chimayo. Burial will follow at Nuestra Señora de Dolores Cemetery in Chimayo. Serving the family as pallbearers will be his grandson, Dylan Sandoval, his brothers, Arturo, Tony and Isaac Sandoval, Victor Sanchez (brother-in-law whom he considered a brother) and nephew, Mark Sandoval. Honorary pallbearers named are Goddaughters, Maria and Beverly Sandoval, grandchildren, Audrina and Logan Sandoval, nieces, Tara and Antoinette Sanchez, and friend, Ruben Coriz. The family of Ernest H. Sandoval would like to extend their deepest gratitude to Dr. Charles Maestas, Presbyterian Espanola Emergency Room Staff, Dr. Andrea Teague, Dr. Goss, and to AmberCare Hospice for all their loving care of our beloved Ernest.
