Ernest Lopez

Ernest G. Lopez 62, a lifelong resident of Truchas, New Mexico passed away unexpectedly due to a car accident on December 20, 2021.

Ernest is preceded in death by his grandparents who raised him as their own, Cipriano and Mariquita Lopez; Mother, Dorothy Lovato; Siblings, Becky, Cynthia, and Gabriel Lovato. In-laws, Dilio and Anita Archuleta.

At the age of 17 under the tutelage of his father-in-law he began doing carpentry. He soon excelled in this trade and became a master in his craft. Throughout the years he shared his love and knowledge of carpentry with many people. He was a hardworking, outgoing individual and for this, he was well known and loved by many. He always seemed to make friends everywhere he went. He had a kind heart and was willing to help anyone in need. Ernest had a great love for the outdoors, all of which included fishing, hunting, and camping. He held his hometown of Truchas near and dear to his heart.

Ernest is survived by his wife, Donna of 43 years; son, Mark Lopez (Maria); daughter, Veronica Martinez (Michael); grandchildren, Kyrsten Martinez, Madisyn Martinez, Marcus Lopez, and Michael Gauna. Siblings Debra, Lisa, Jeanette, and Anthony. Brother in-laws, Gary Archuleta (Eppie), Orlando Archuleta (Yvonne), Dilio Archuleta Jr. (Yvonne). Sister in-laws, Rayne Hindi (Mike), Valerie Archuleta and many other relatives and friends.

Serving the family as pallbearers are Dilio Archuleta Jr., Orlando Archuleta, Michael Guana, Mark Lopez,    Michael Martinez, Matthew Sandoval, Walter Sandoval Jr. and Robert Sandoval.

Serving the family as honorary pallbearers are his grandchildren.

A public visitation will be on Tuesday January 11, 2022 at 6:00 in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory and a Rosary to follow at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will take place on January 12, 2022 at Holy Family Church in Chimayo at 10:00 a.m.  Ernest's wishes were to be cremated. A burial will take place at a later date.
