In Loving Memory of Eric "Blue" López April 14, 1987 – July 14, 2026

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the unexpected passing of our beloved son, father, brother, uncle, nephew, cousin, and friend, Eric "Blue" López of Las Trampas, New Mexico, on July 14, 2026. Blue made his grand entrance into this world on April 14, 1987, and from the very beginning lived life with an unforgettable spirit.

Blue was incredibly proud of his roots. Being a descendant of Las Trampas and carrying the López name meant everything to him. His faith in God was the unshakable foundation of his life. As a child and throughout his teenage years, he faithfully served as an altar server, a responsibility he carried with great pride and reverence. One of his greatest spiritual accomplishments was becoming a Hermano de Las Trampas, a brotherhood in Christ that he held close to his heart. His devotion to God never wavered.

Eric attended and graduated from Peñasco High School, where he excelled both academically and athletically. A gifted athlete, he gave his all in every sport he played. The friendships he made with classmates, teachers, and coaches remained dear to him throughout his life.

Determined to fulfill a lifelong dream, Blue proudly answered the call to serve his country. Serving in the military was one of his proudest accomplishments. It was a role that fit him perfectly, as protecting others came naturally to him.

The greatest joy of Eric's life was becoming a father. His daughters, Estrella and Victoria, were the center of his world. They were his greatest pride, his greatest purpose, and the loves of his life. His love for them was unconditional, unwavering, and truly magical.

Blue found his greatest peace in the mountains he loved so dearly. Whether he was hunting, fishing, hiking, cutting firewood, or simply picking trash to help preserve the land, he found purpose and happiness in nature. He took immense pride in caring for the mountains that had given him so much.

Those mountains also became the setting for countless adventures shared with his father, brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews, Tíos, primas, primos, and friends. Together they explored the wilderness, laughed until they cried, shared unforgettable stories, and created memories that will live on forever. Blue was happiest in the high country—wild, free, and surrounded by the people he loved most.

Eric was a deeply kind, loving, and free-spirited man whose mischievous smile and quick wit could brighten any room. He loved making people laugh, pulling harmless pranks, and reminding everyone not to take life too seriously. No one was ever safe from his sense of humor. Along with his playful nature came an incredible work ethic. He worked tirelessly in everything he did and never shied away from hard work.

While Eric spent much of his life protecting others, he also fought a long and courageous battle with addiction. Through every victory and every setback, he continued to fight with remarkable strength and determination.

Our family wishes to express our deepest gratitude to Melanie and Max who stood faithfully beside him through it all. Your love, compassion, support, and unwavering presence meant more to Blue than words can express, and they will never be forgotten by our family.

Above all else, family was Blue's greatest treasure. He absolutely idolized his father and spent his life striving to follow the example he set. His mother was his everything—his querida—and the bond they shared was beyond words. Although he was the youngest of the family, Eric always carried himself as its protector, fiercely loyal, and endlessly devoted to those he loved.

To his nieces and nephews, he was the unforgettable "Uncle Blue," the fun-loving uncle who always made life more exciting and somehow managed to let them get away with just about anything. Above all, his daughters, Estrella and Victoria, were the light of his life and his greatest blessing.

Blue's protective spirit, unwavering faith, love for the mountains, infectious laughter, and deep devotion to his family and friends will forever remain in our hearts. Though his time with us was far too short, the love he gave and the memories he created will continue to live on in all who were blessed to know him.

Forever loved. Forever missed. Forever our Blue.

Eric is preceded in death by his beloved mother, Bernie Lopez, brother, Frank “Panchito” Lopez, grandparents, Fernando and Ofelia Lopez, Margarita, and Amador Trujillo. Padrino George Visarraga Special Aunt Evelyn Gonzales, Uncles Margarito Montoya, George and Michael Visarraga, Jose Ortega, Pricilla (Ben) Sanchez, Alfonso Trujillo, Nancy Trujillo, Manuel Trujillo, Norma Apodaca, and Lee and Tiny Trujillo.

Eric is survived by his loving family - Daughters Estrella and Victoria Lopez-Martin, Girlfriend/Fiancee Desiree Quintana, Father Frank Lopez Sr., Siblings; Michelle (Matthew) Martin, Fernando (Charlotte)Sanchez-Lopez, Heather (Guillermo) Atencio; Nieces and Nephews, who he loved very much; Dominic, Dylan, and Mia Lopez, Marissa, Maiya, and Makayla Martin, Alyssa, Katalina, and Lorenzo Atencio;

Aunts and Uncles Leroy (Shirley)Lopez, Oralia Visarraga, Lucille Ortega, Mariquita Lopez, Sylvia Lopez, Bernice Montoya, Barbara (Dave) Roybal, Leo (Theresa) Lopez, Chris(Doris) Lopez, Stella Padilla, Florie Lindsay, Tina Gonzales, Denise Trujillo, Elmer (Patsy) Trujillo, Daniel Apodaca, Joseph Gonzales, and many other loving family and friends.

A public viewing will take place on Thursday, July 30, 2026, at DeVargas Funeral Home and a Rosary at 6:00 p.m. On Friday, July 31, 2026, a second Rosary will take place at 9:30 a.m. and a Mass at 10:00 a.m. at the San Jose de Gracia in Las Trampas, NM. Burial to follow at the Cemetery in Las Trampas, NM.
