Era Sue Diana Jones
Pojoaque, NM
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Era Sue Diana Jones on August 15, 2026, at the family home, surrounded by her loving familia. She was called home on the sacred feast of the Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. She fought a courageous 3 ½ years of cancer. Era Sue was the beloved only child of Albert H. Jones Jr. and Lillian Jaramillo Jones and the cherished granddaughter of Albert H. Jones Sr. and Era Mae Jones and Jose and Susanna Jaramillo. Throughout her years she brought an incredible amount of love and happiness to everyone fortunate enough to know her.
A devout Catholic, true culinary artist, and caregiver, Era Sue possessed a rare gift for bringing comfort to those around her. Rooted in her faith from her baptism and confirmation at Holy Cross Catholic Church. She carried a spirit of dedication through every chapter of her life – from playing in the Espanola High School band to being named Employee of the Year at TRK Management in Los Alamos in 1998, serving the State of New Mexico in a secretarial position in the Corrections Department and retiring from Air Conditioning & Heating Service Company in Santa Fe.
Though she carried a heavy heart and mourned deeply the heartbreaking passing of her loving partner, Johnny Herrera, in 2021 her resilient spirit never wavered. Alongside her beloved sons, Nelson and Jerry, she dedicated herself to caring for the retired racing horses left to them by Johnny. Her love also embraced Johnny’s children, Juanito Herrera and Melissa Lopez and their families.
Whether she was preparing a gourmet dinner for her family, baking her famous chocolate dishes for the cherished Christmas potlucks at her Aunt Dolores’s house, or hand-delivering fresh treats to brighten the days of workers at the cancer center, her actions were always driven by pure devotion. Era Sue loved and was loved by countless people whose lives she touched with her remarkable inner and outer beauty. Her kindness, warmth, and vibrant spirit will be deeply missed, but her family will forever hold onto her favorite, parting words of affection: “I love you more!”
Era Sue was preceded in death by her father Albert H. Jones, her parental grandparents Albert Jones, Sr. and Era Mae Jones maternal grandparents Jose Jaramillo and Susanna Jaramillo.
