Emily Martinez

Emily V. Martinez , 85, a resident of Fairview, passed away peacefully at her home on Monday, January 29, 2018, surrounded by family members and loved ones. Emily was preceded in death by her husband, Ross Martinez; son, Lonnie DeVargas; parents, Melaquias and Maclovia Vargas; biological father, Emilio DeVargas; brothers, Ubaldo, Mike and LeRoy Vargas and sister, Edna Lovato. Emily was a homemaker who loved to cook and spend time with her children, grandchildren, relatives and friends. She was known for her quick wit, an ability to make people laugh and the countless “dichos” she knew. Everyone loved her tortillas and she was most proud of winning a Chile Cook-Off several years ago for her red chile. Emily is survived by her children, Paul (Myra) Martinez, Brenda Delgado and partner Harry Miera, Dee Arlene Ceballos and partner Martin Talamantes, Ron Martinez, and Maureen (Daniel) Martinez, who were her primary caretakers; sisters, Adelina Leichtle of Sun City, Arizona, Irene Jacquez of Farmington; brothers, Robert (Linda) DeVargas of Las Cruces and Emilio (Virginia) DeVargas of Farmington; close sister-in-law, Cecilia DeVargas; nine grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held on Friday, February 2, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at the Santa Cruz United Methodist Church in Santa Cruz. Burial will take place on Saturday, February 3, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at the Petaca Cemetery. The family of Emily V. Martinez has entrusted the care of their loved one to the DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Española Valley.
