Elvira Romero

Elvira Dora Romero of Cordova, New Mexico, passed away peacefully on January 2, 2026, in Gypsum Colorado.

Elvira was born on June 29th, 1926, to Juan Ramon and Josefita Sandoval. 

She is preceded in death by her siblings, Fidel Sandoval, Lorenzo Sandoval, Frances Martinez, and Elena Romero. She is reunited in spirit with her beloved husband Policarpio Romero, sons Adrian, Tony, and Paul Romero.

Elvira is survived by her son Norbert (Betty) Romero; daughters Ida Palacio, and Ruth (Paul) Hernandez; brother, Eloy Sandoval and sister Delia Martinez. Grandchildren Joey, Marvin and Billy Romero, Janice Palacio, Michelle Martinez, Fernando and Vanessa Romero and David and Elena Hernandez. Great grandchildren, Vanessa, Jonathan, Jason Vazquez, Israel and Ashley Avalos; Kevin and Cruz Romero; Milagro Romero; and Ava and Darren Vasquez. She is survived by numerous nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews whom all will remember her fondly.

Elvira was a true embodiment of hard work. Elvira dedicated herself to various crafts such as weaving rugs, wall decorations and working with Adobe. She used to plaster Adobe walls to a finished look. She loved going to the mountains to pick pinon. She also loved her trips to the casino.

Her love for family was unparalleled, and she found such joy in spending time with her family, making jokes and sharing stories.

Elvira will be remembered for her deep love of family, strength and the pride she carried in her roots from Cordova, New Mexico. Her legacy lives on through the many generations she loved and nurtured.

A Rosary will be held on Sunday, January 11, 2026, at 6:00 pm at DeVargas Funeral Home in Espanola, New Mexico.

Funeral Services will take place on Monday, January 12, 2026, at 10:00 am at DeVargas Funeral Home. Burial will follow at the Cordova Catholic Cemetery. Reception to follow.
