Eloida C. Sargent, 88, a resident of Cordova, NM, beloved wife, grandma, sister, aunt, and friend passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on July 10, 2025.
Eloida was born and raised in her loving little town of Cordova. She went to school at Alisson and James, graduated from Santa Cruz, soon after enlisted in the Marines where she met her husband Sarge. Following their marriage, they made their home in Cordova, where they lovingly built a cabinet shop together. She pursued higher education at the College of Santa Fe, where she graduated Summa Cum Laude, a testament to her dedication and passion for learning. She entered into the teaching field where she taught many students who attribute their success to her guidance and being caring but strict. She retired from Espanola Schools and enjoyed her gardening and flowers, caring for the cleanliness of the home, and caring for her grandkids whom she adored.
She was preceded in death by her parents Abel and Lucrecia Trujillo; in-laws W. A. Sargent and Sarabelle Sargent; brothers Maclovio, Elizardo, Levi, and Rudolpho; brother-in-law Stan Sargent; sisters-in-law Amada Ortiz and Gregoria Trujillo; nephews James, Nelson, Frutoso, Eric, Andrew, and Randy; and niece Vera Ortiz, and numerous cousins and best friends.
She is survived by her husband of 66 years Charles Sargent; sons Chris (Margaret) Sargent and Jeff (Brenda) Sargent; grandkids Melissa (Andrew) Ortiz, Mindy (Terrance)Gray, Anthony Sargent, Jaren (Jessica) Cordova, and Haley (Michael) Purdy; great grandkids Alexis and Alejandro Ortiz, Mariah and Isabella Gray, Ryan Sargent and Jade Cordova; sisters-in-law Ida and Eremita Trujillo.
We would like to express our sincere thanks to the Presbyterian Hospice team for their above and beyond love and care, Betty for guiding us into her being placed in the program, Chacha and Lilliana her nurses who cared for her with love, Rosie her Health Care Aide who formed a loving bond with her, and Jeff her Chaplin who served both of our parent’s spiritual needs.
Special thanks to Father Sebastian for the last rites and love and support, and the staff at the office, Nieces Sarah, Evelyn and Nina and family and friends who have been so supportive to our family throughout this time.
A Rosary will take place at the Holy Family Catholic Church in Chimayo, NM, on Monday, July 21, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. and Mass at 2:00 p.m. Burial to follow at the Cordova Catholic Cemetery.
