Edward "Ed" Elwood Mose, SR 82, of Medanales, New Mexico, passed away surrounded with love on December 29, 2023. He was born on February 14, 1941 in Hagerstown, Maryland, to Naomi and Lester Mose, Jr. Ed proudly served in the United States Army from 1959 to 1962. Ed has been married to the love of his life, Antonia Dolores Mose for 63 years.
Ed committed his professional life to the “Ma Bell” telephone company, working as a lifetime employee of the evolving Bell System, Bell Atlantic, AT&T, and Verizon versions of the telephone company. He retired from Verizon in 1991 after many years of dedicated service.
In his spare time, Ed had a passion for sports. He excelled in wrestling, basketball, soccer, and track. Later in life, he found joy in coaching his five children in various sports for the New Carrollton Boys & Girls Club, where he also served on the Board of Directors. Ed and Dolores spent 26 wonderful years raising their family in New Carrollton, MD. Ed was also a long-time member of the DeMatha Men's Club working many fund raisers and sporting events.
In 1996, Ed and his wife Dolores retired to Medanales, New Mexico. They became actively involved in the New Mexico Senior Olympics as athletes, the American Legion, and the Rio Arriba County Senior Games Office as President and Board member for several years. Ed and Dolores were particularly passionate about the Sociedad Colonial Espanola de Santa Fe, a group dedicated to preserving colonial dances for future generations. Ed and Dolores have been one of the most decorated married couple Senior Olympians in New Mexico, where Ed was selected to be one of the torch bearers the year that the National Senior Olympics were held in Albuquerque, NM.
Ed is survived by his loving wife, Antonia Dolores Mose; his children, Ed (Michelle), Joe (Robin), Mark (Sue), Danny (Julene), and Christa (Pam); his grandchildren, Emily, Becca, Leo, Sydney, Jake, Jesse, Nate, Sienna, Zach, and Malia; his half-brothers, Terry (Susie), Tim (Betsy), Rick, and Dick (Pam); his family members, Mel (Carol), Delphinia (Joe), Connie (Thom), Tino (Cheryl), Patsy, Henry, Priscilla (Tim), and Peter (Jeri Lyn); as well as his surrogate family members Norbert & Arlene Garcia and family.
Ed was preceded in death by his parents, Naomi and Lester Mose, Jr., and his parents-in-law, Elsie and Melquiades Manzanares, Sr. He was also preceded in death by family members Jane, George, David, Mike, and Eugene.
The Rosary and Funeral Mass will be held at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Abiquiu, NM on Friday January 12, 2024. (Rosary – 10:15 AM, Funeral Mass – 11:00 AM)
There will be a Reception immediately following the Funeral Mass at the Joe Ferran Abiquiu Gym next to the church.
The Burial will be at San Antonio Cemetery in Medanales, NM immediately following the Funeral Mass.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the American Legion Post 17 in Espanola, NM, or to Ambercare (Espanola) at 1302 Calle De La Merced RD, Espanola, NM 87532.
