EDWARD DUNAWAY, 42, a resident of Alcalde, passed away on Monday, June 8, 2020. Our hearts are broken as we share the sudden and unexpected death from a brief illness of our beloved son, lifelong companion and friend. Edward was preceded in death by his father, Camilo Dunaway; brother, Jose Salazar; maternal grandparents, Luis Minis Vasquez and Margarita; aunt, Josie Romero; uncles Jimmy and JoEddy Vasquez. Edward was born to Connie Vasquez and Camilo Dunaway, on March 22, 1978 in Santa Fe. He had a sweet spirit, welcoming smile and a listening heart; with those combinations, Edward was quick to befriend anyone and everyone he met. Ultimately, leaving so many of us with an ever-lasting impression in our hearts. Mr. Dunaway is survived by his loving mother, Connie Vasquez and Miguel Campos; lifelong partner, Jose Mascarenas; a very special niece whom he considered a daughter, Kacie Ranes; God-parents, Waldo and Priscilla Ulibarri; brothers and sisters, Gilbert and wife Tila of Alcalde and Margie Vasquez and companion Denise Martinez of Hernandez; nieces and nephews, Margarita, Anjelica, Luisa, Gibbi, Nicolas, Zeb, Ruby and Danny; aunts and uncles, Rosie Rodriguez of Albuquerque, Becky Frease and husband Jim of Tooele, Utah, Minnie Vasquez of Albuquerque, Florance Vasquez of Penasco, Johnny Vasquez and wife Lorraine of Taos, Fidel Vasquez of Penasco, Dennis Vasquez and Dolores Dunaway of Albuquerque and many cousins. Public visitation will begin on Wednesday, June 17, 2020 6:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Peace of DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory, with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. Due to the COVID-19 restrictions, masks are mandatory only 75 people will be allowed in the building. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Thursday, June 18, 2020 10:30 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Ohkay Owingeh. Burial to follow at Loma Vista Cemetery in Alcalde with the following serving as pallbearers, Darren Salazar, Caleb Vasquez, Gibbi Vasquez, NickoLaus Vasquez, Zebadiah Vasquez, Jonathan Griego and Danny Ranes.
