Edward
Cartier
d. Jun 30, 2026
Edward N. Cartier (Tu’udin Tsideh) was called to the Happy Hunting Grounds on June 30, 2026.
Edward was born on September 30, 1958, in Los Angeles, California, to Cecelia Naranjo and James Cartier.
At a young age, following the passing of his mother in 1964, Edward and his siblings moved to Santa Clara Pueblo. There, he found his true home at Kha’p’o Owingeh, where he was lovingly raised by his grandmother, Christina Naranjo. As a young boy, Edward enjoyed spending time at the river hunting birds and exploring the canyon while fishing and, later in life, hunting. He was also an active member of the Boy Scouts, where he developed a love for the outdoors that remained with him throughout his life.
In 1977, Edward proudly enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. During his service, he operated landing craft, amphibious tracked vehicles (Amtracs), and armored personnel carriers. He was honorably discharged in 1979.
Following his military service, Edward built a successful career as a plumber, dedicating more than 30 years to the trade. For 10 of those years, he was a proud member of Local Union 412 of the United Association of Plumbers and Pipefitters in New Mexico. Later, Edward settled on his ranch in Ojo Sarco, New Mexico, where he embraced the life he loved most. An avid farmer and rancher, he found great joy in working the land and raising horses.
Edward was preceded in death by his beloved grandmother, Christina Naranjo; grandfather, Victor Naranjo; parents, Cecelia Naranjo and James Cartier; and brothers, Phillip "Bo" Tafoya and Kenneth Tafoya, aunt Teresita Naranjo, and cousin Joey Chavarria.
Edward is survived by his beloved children, Christina Cartier (companion DJ Bigcrow) and Edward Cartier; grandchildren, Leah Martinez and Carlos Gomez; great-grandsons, Juan Salinas Cruz and Jose Salinas Cruz; siblings, Sharon Naranjo Garcia, James M. Cartier, and Judy Tafoya; his godmother, Stella Chavarria and cousin Denise Chavarria and Loretta Chavarria; his dear friend, Nina Motah; and many cherished nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends from Santa Clara Pueblo and Ohkay Owingeh.
Edward will be remembered for his dedication to his work, his service to his country, and the deep connection he maintained to his Pueblo traditions, the land, and the outdoors. His memory will live on in all who knew and loved him.
Services are pending.
