Eddie Millsap, a resident of Sombrillo, NM, passed away peacefully on January 5, 2025, surrounded by his family in his home.
Eddie shared a beautiful life with his wife, life partner, Marie, for 65 years and 7 months. Together, they had three daughters: Kim Levitt and husband, Bill; Teresa Saiz and husband, Marty; and Shelly Millsap, who passed away on December 8, 2015. They were blessed with five grandchildren: Kyle Levitt, Ashley Losinski and husband, Weston, Kenny Saiz, Kevin Saiz and wife, Keeley, and Megan Davidson and husband, Seamus, and five great-grandchildren: Myles Saiz, Jaxon Saiz, Paisley Davidson, Calvin Losinski, and Lucy Losinski.
Eddie was born on January 14, 1938, in Hagerman, New Mexico, to Ollie and Lewis Millsap. He was the youngest of seven siblings—three sisters: Thelma, Billie, and Betty; and three brothers: Lewis Jr., Roy, and Weldon, who is the only surviving sibling.
Eddie graduated from Lovington High School in 1957, and attended New Mexico A&M, now known as New Mexico State University. Throughout his college years, he was part of the ROTC and studied mechanical engineering, which later helped him land a job at White Sands Missile Range.
In 1963, Eddie moved to Espanola and started as a supervisor of computer systems at Los Alamos National Labs. In 1993, both Eddie and Marie retired from the Labs. For the next 30 years, they traveled the world, spent time with family—especially enjoying their grandkids’ sports and school activities—and went on many camping and fishing trips. They also enjoyed working on their garden.
In 1997, Eddie attended Northern New Mexico College, where he discovered his passion for tinwork. He mastered the art of tin making and retablos—creating frames, mirrors, and crosses—and even taught local artists at his home. He also operated a framing business, working on many of the local artists' photos and paintings. Eddie crafted rosaries, which he generously donated to churches around the world.
Eddie was very active in his church, especially as a Fourth Degree member of the Knights of Columbus. He exemplified the Knights of Columbus' four core principles: Charity, Unity, Fraternity, and Patriotism. The Fourth Degree is the highest and most prestigious degree in the Knights of Columbus. Eddie also worked at local voting polls during elections for many years.
Eddie’s memory will be cherished by his family and all who knew him.
Public Visitation and Rosary will be at 11:30 am at Sacred Heart Catholic Church and Funeral Mass at 12:30 pm on Wednesday, January 15, 2025. Burial will be held following the funeral mass at Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery in Española, NM.
