Douglas L. Weiss passed away peacefully on June 19, 2025, following a brief battle with pancreatic cancer.
Born in Cleveland, Ohio, Doug grew up in the town of Milan, Ohio where he graduated from Edison High School. Doug married his high school sweetheart Louise and attended Case Western Reserve University, where he completed his Bachelor’s degree, then a PhD in Theoretical Physics just 3 years later. He completed a two-year post-doc term in Bloomington, Indiana and in 1978 moved with his family to Los Alamos where he completed another two-year post-doc term at Los Alamos National Laboratory. He became a full staff member at the Lab in 1980 and continued to work for the Lab in multiple divisions until he retired in 2012.
Besides his deep intellectual abilities, Doug was known for his musical talent and quick wit. He was actively involved in the community as a Little League coach, umpire, and Boy Scout parent for many years. He was also a cornerstone member of Trinity on the Hill Episcopal Church, where he served in various roles including liturgical volunteer, organist, Chancel and Compline choir member, choral evensong, clergy spouse, and in the church band “The Altar of Souls” where he sang, played piano and helped produce an album. He was also highly skilled with computers and was well versed in almost every operating system he could get his hands on.
Doug was preceded in death by his parents Louis and Doris (Marquard) Weiss and is survived by wife Louise, brother Richard (Evelyn), son Doug (Holly) and grandchildren JD (Linsey), Tyler (April), and Brandon.
Funeral Services will take place Saturday, June 28, 2025, beginning at 11:00 a.m. at Trinity on the Hill Episcopal Church, with a reception to follow.
