Dilia Romero

d. July 31, 2025

El Guache

Resident of El Guache, NM was called home by our heavenly father on Thursday July 31, 2025, surrounded by family and friends. She was born to Angelina Garcia and Felix Salazar on May 3, 1941.

Dilia was a strong, vibrant, independent women. She faced every challenge with grace, strength and an unyielding spirit. She was our role model, an inspiration to many and in turn taught us all valuable lessons. Her courage carried her through the hardest times. Mom always called people ‘Mi Hito’ or ‘Mi Hita’ as if we were all her own children. It was her way of showing love.

She dedicated her time to serving others as a proud member of The Espanola Hospital Auxiliary Pink Ladies and by cooking meals for Habitat for Humanity volunteers, always giving from her heart. Her food was a comfort to many, whether shared at a community event or family gathering, everyone who tasted her cooking felt the love she poured into every meal. Her beans, red chile, and homemade tortillas were legendary and will be remembered with every bite. She had a deep love for tin work, pouring patience and artistry into every piece she created. She also had a special place in her heart for her Chihuahuas, Poncho, Miss Maggie, and Peaches, who brought her endless joy, comfort, and companionship.

Mama, you instilled beautiful memories, and you will forever continue to be our guiding force through your compassion, and the warmth that touched every life you encountered.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sister Beatrice (Ernesto) Apodaca; nephew Jessie Apodaca; uncles Max and Francisco Salazar and Aunt Juanita Mendoza. Survived by daughter Angelina Maestas; twin sons John (Tammy) Romero and Joseph (Melissa) Romero; sisters Toni (Arturo) Sisneros; Rafaelita (Duane) Briggs; grandchildren Clarence (Angelica) Maestas, Donovan (Stephanie) Maestas, Joseph C. Romero, Jonathan Romero, Brandon (Janett) Romero, Ezekiel Romero, Noah Romero, Jonah Romero; great grandchildren Johnny, Jazlynn, Catalina, Donovan (DJ), LaDainian, Calvin, Hazel, and Zayden. She claimed as her own Yazmin Flores-Hurtado, Dolores Salazar, and Elaine Gallegos, who held a special place in her heart.
