Diane Marie Scheer Atencio went on to her greater reward on October 19, 2025, surrounded by family. She was heartily devoted to her God, Savior, and Lord and her love of the Holy Trinity spilled out upon all who could accept it, especially her three children and nine grand children.
Diane was born in Madison, Wisconsin to Robert Gottlieb Scheer and Mollie Frieda Greenwell. She is the oldest of four siblings, Robert (son Ben), Richard (daughters Danielle and Vanessa), and Mary (son Santiago). Diane entered a Catholic convent during high school and was close to final vows when at 21 years old she lost her father, a WWII veteran and local firefighter. Several months later she was ordered to take a leave of absence due to medical conditions that she would struggle with for the rest of her life.
Seeking a dryer climate, Diane arrived in Santa Fe, New Mexico where she worked as an Emergency Room LPN at Saint Vincent Hospital. During a time of reflection at the Pecos Monastery she discerned her vocation was to married life. She changed careers shortly afterward due to workplace stress and her health. Diane became a Teacher's Assistant with the Santa Fe Public Schools which she remained until her retirement in the late 90's. While at Agua Fria Elementary she met her soon-to-be husband Pedro Atencio, a fellow educator.
Diane and Pedro were married 41 years until his death in the mid 2010's and they raised three children, Mario (spouse Crystal), Alicia, and Javier (spouse Renae). She adored and doted upon all her grandchildren Aramea, Dorino, Eleiana, Florian, Javier, Genesio, Zuriel, Kaylee, and great grandchild Azullua. Diane and Pedro were blessed with many children by spiritual adoption. Trusting in the effectiveness of her prayers, she was called upon by many who sought spiritual, emotional, and physical comfort and assistance.
Diane is survived by and goes on to reunite with many who were blessed to experience her great love, generosity, and goodhearted nature.
