David Joseph "Houston" Age - 57 Vel Martinez

\r\nDavid Joseph “Houston” Martinez, 57, a resident of Velarde passed away suddenly on Sunday, August 14, 2011 in Albuquerque, after a lengthy illness. Houston was an avid hunter/guide. Houston spoke often of the hunting/fishing trips with his friend, Frank Simms. He loved photographing his family and the outdoors. He was dedicated to his job at LANL as well as his Catholic faith as expressed through his involvement with the Penitente Morada in Santa Cruz. He was loyal to all & loved his father, brother, sister and best friend Lori without measure. Joseph loved his garden and the humming birds that it attracted. He was preceded in death by his mother, Clarabelle; paternal grandparents, Nicholas and Bernardita Martinez; maternal grandparents, Amadeo and Rosita Salazar; uncle, Arturo Salazar, and aunt, Elvira Mascareñas. Houston is survived by his father, David A. Martinez; sister, Debbie Garcia and husband Anthony; brother, Donald Martinez; best friend, Lori Sanchez; very close aunt/uncle, JoAnn and Ray Olivas; like brothers: Daniel Salazar and Randy Griego; nieces: Leyla Trujillo and husband Gilbert, Jenine and Aubrianna Martinez; nephews: Little Anthony Garcia, Nicholas Martinez and Gabriel Trujillo. Public Visitation for “Houston” will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 17, 2011 in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, August 18, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Velarde. A private family burial will take place on a later date. Serving as pallbearers will be: Daniel Salazar, Randy Griego, Elmo Valdez, Scott Volz, Cody Trujillo, Ray Olivas, Dennis Valdez and Marcitos Martinez.
