David Dennis Velasquez, 56, of Arroyo Seco, passed away peacefully on May 13, 2023. He was born on September 14, 1966, to Bernie Velasquez and Elsie Amaya.
He was preceded in death by his father Bernie F. Velasquez, biological mother Elsie Anaya, brothers Robert and Ventura Velasquez, step-brother Michael Amaya, brother-in-law, Mike Herrera and father-in-law, Apolinario Trujillo.
David loved to learn and challenge himself and others. He attended high school at Thomas More Prep in Hays, Kansas. David followed in his father’s footsteps in plastering and sub-contracting and built his own successful business, B.F Velasquez Plastering. Throughout his life, he loved to explore and travel to new places, one of his favorite trips was a pilgrimage to Međugorje. His most favorite past times were spending an evening with his dad and brothers, taking a scenic drive with his wife and children, and story-telling, sharing his most daring adventures. He also enjoyed supporting his children and family, being the chase crew at their games and events. David was especially proud of his children for their community involvement and efforts. He was very personable, loved to make people laugh, he was an extremely generous and kind-hearted person, always happy to give what he could. He was a very heart-felt person and kept everyone in mind when in prayer.
David is survived by his wife of 29 years, Carmen; his children Melissa, Daniel, and Celina (fiancée David Bustos); mother; Esther; brothers, Bernie Jr. (Lori), Jimmy and Salomon (Sunny); sisters, Bertha Denetclaw, Pauline Herrera-Fresquez (Charles), Pamela Vigil (Darrell) and Kathy Griego (Juan Duran); and step-father, Ramon Amaya. Mother-in-law, Adelires Trujillo, brothers-in-law, Larry (Sylvia), Fernando, Jerome, Miguel (Amanda). Sisters-in-law, Alice, Esther (Mark), Corrine, Susan (Gilbert). Godchildren, Lenore, Laura, Kimberly, Ashley, Ashlynn, Marcos, Wreynna and many friends and family.
A public visitation will take place on Thursday, May 18, 2023, at 6:00 pm in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home with a rosary to begin at 7:00 pm. A Mass of Christian burial to take place on Friday, May 19, 2023, at 10:30 am at Santa Cruz de la Canada, with burial to follow at Nuestra Senora de Dolores cemetery in Chimayo.
Mass will be live streamed via Santa Cruz de la Canada Facebook Page.
Serving as pallbearers are Marcos Vigil, Ronald Trujillo, Jaime Sanchez, Kevin Velasquez, David Bustos, Darrell Vigil, Ricky Salazar and Freddie J. Trujillo.
Honorary Pallbearer will be Ramon Amaya and Steve Ryan.
