Charlotte Margaret Padilla-Romero, surrounded by her family, left this world onto her next journey with our Lord Jesus Christ on March 18, 2022 after a lengthy illness. Charlotte was born on July 27, 1945 to Frank and Mary Padilla in El Guache, New Mexico.

Charlotte worked hard all her life. Her first job was at A&W Drive In, in Espanola where she met the love of her life Preciliano Romero while working as a carhop. She later went on to work for Montgomery Wards, Yellow Front, Rio Arriba County, Taxation and Revenue Department, and New Mexico Department of Labor, when she retired from State Government. In the 1970’s, she was in the Living Water Choir, singing with the Espanola Prayer Group and later with the San Juan Prayer Group in Okay Owingeh Pueblo and also San Juan Bautista Parish in Okay Owingeh as the Living Water Choir until covid hit New Mexico.

Charlotte was preceded in death by her parents Frank and Mary Padilla, niece baby Audrey Padilla, Grandparents: Juan and Raquel Salazar and Pedro and Isabel Padilla. In-laws Ramon and Anita Romero, brothers-in-law: Ismael and Louie Romero and Rudy Gonzales. Sister-in-law Belle Romero and Step grandchild: Gary Duran. She is survived by her husband Press Romero, Son Matthew Romero, Daughters Cindy Romero and Brenda Padilla (Bounthavy Hong). Grandchildren: Kyra Romero (Nathan Montoya), Darrion Romero, Angelica Garcia (Esequiel), Jessica (Mack Ryan Gurule), Justin Padilla, Jared Padilla (Anthony Quezada), Joshua Padilla. Step grandchild: Nicole Jaramillo (David), Great grandchildren: Raffael, Rogelio and Daviana Garcia, Katelyn and Serenity Gurule, step great grandchildren: Donte and Amaree Jaramillo. Brothers: Tony Padilla (Mary), Danny Padilla (Eileen), Joe Padilla (Connie). Sisters: Amelia Gonzales, Evelyn Herrera (Alfred). Brothers-in-law Arthur Romero (Margie) and Sam Romero. Sister-in-law: Lucy Romero and many other relatives.

We the family of Charlotte Romero would like to thank Ambercare Hospice Staff and nurses Erica and Emily for the care provided for our mother, along with Billy whom assisted with moving mom. Everyone was very professional and provided tender care for our mother. We also like to thank Melissa Porter for prodiving beautiful music, Father Herrera and staff at San Juan Bautista Parish. To all who provided prayers, food, calls and support. We are very appreciative to all.

We would also like to thank all personnel at DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory, for the loving and compassionate care of our loved one.

A Rosary for Charlotte will be held on April 12, 2022 at 10:30am at St. John the Baptist Church in Ohkay Owingeh with Mass to follow at 11:15am. Charlotte will be buried at Santa Fe National Cemetery on April 18, 2022 at 9:00am
