Charlene Casados-Armijo

d. February 27, 2024

Chamisal

Our heavenly Father has called his angel home.

Charlene Casados-Armijo, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, teacher, and friend, passed from this world to eternal life surrounded by her loved ones on February 27, 2024.

Charlene was born and raised in the beautiful mountain valley of Chamisal, New Mexico. From a very early age, it was apparent that she was a gifted child, always eager to learn more about the world around her. It came as no surprise that she excelled academically and graduated valedictorian of her high school class. She attended Highlands University in Las Vegas, New Mexico where she graduated Summa Cum Laude with her Masters Degrees in Education and Biology.

Her passion for learning easily transformed into a passion for teaching and she dedicated her life to educating others. She began her career in Grants, New Mexico where she did her student teaching before transferring to Gallina Elementary School. Although she loved the community of Gallina, it was always her intention to return home and give the gift of knowledge back to her community. She spent the majority of her extensive educational career teaching in the Peñasco Independent School District where she inspired her students to believe in themselves and achieve any goal set before them.

She was devoted to her family, especially her children whom she adored. They were her greatest treasure and she loved and protected them fiercely. In addition to sharing her pursuit of knowledge with them, she taught them compassion, empathy, and integrity. She and her husband were enjoying their retirement. Sundays were special days for them, they would attend mass and enjoy the afternoon together. She was a devout Catholic who prayed rosaries for her loved ones every night and exemplified Godly love.

Charlene is preceded in death by her father Benjamin Casados; brother Wayne Casados; sister Matilda Casados; paternal grandparents Benino and Juanita Casados; maternal grandparents Fermin and Virginia Pacheco; aunts Maclovia Lucero and Lucita Lopez; and her great-grandmother Maximana Lopez whom she cherished dearly.

Charlene is survived by her husband Vincent E. Armijo; daughters Maxine Casados and Mercedes Casados de Armijo; sons Charles Casados, Adam Casados, and Erik Casados; granddaughters Scarlett Casados and Charlene Casados; mother Edonila Casados; her siblings; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A private rosary and mass for her immediate family will take place on Wednesday, March 6, 2024. Interment will follow at the Santa Cruz Cemetery in Chamisal, New Mexico.

Serving as Pallbearer are Charles Casados, Adam Casados, Erik Casados, Mercedes Casados de Armijo, Clarice Lopez, and Abel Visarraga. Honorary Pallbearers are Vincent E. Armijo, Maxine Casados, Scarlett Casados, and Charlene Casados.
