Obituary

With heavy hearts and profound sadness, we announce the passing of our beloved Cecilia M. Vigil, a cherished friend, devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother. Cecilia passed away peacefully at the age of 91, surrounded by her loving family.

A woman of deep faith and unwavering devotion to her family, Cecilia touched the lives of all who knew her. She was deeply loved and will be forever remembered and profoundly missed.  Cecilia was born on November 24, 1934, to Luis and Feliz Martinez. She grew up in La Mesilla as the youngest of seven children. To her family, Cecilia was affectionately known as her father’s “consenthetha.” In his eyes, she could do no wrong; she was truly Daddy’s little girl. During her childhood, she spent many days helping her mother bake pies for neighborhood families and friends. One of her special responsibilities was delivering those homemade pies with her bicycle and basket.

While attending high school, Cecilia met her lifelong companion, Ismael Vigil. Their love and commitment grew into a beautiful 71-year marriage. Together, they built a life centered on family, faith, and love, raising four children: Larry (wife Angela), Donna (husband Jimmy), Lisa (husband Miguel), and Lydia (husband Tim). Cecilia’s legacy continues through her 10 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great-grandchildren, all of whom she cherished dearly. Cecilia was deeply devoted to her Catholic faith and remained actively involved in her church community throughout her life.  Her days were filled with the things she loved most: spending time with family, helping manage Vigil’s Meat Market, and organizing numerous church fundraisers. She found great joy in cooking for her loved ones, traveling, and camping, creating memories that her family will carry with them always. Cecilia’s life was a beautiful reflection of faith, devotion, generosity, and unconditional love. Her legacy lives on through the generations of family she nurtured, the friendships she treasured, and the countless lives she touched. Though she will be dearly missed, the memories she leaves behind will remain in the hearts of those who loved her.

A Rosary will be recited on November 10 at 10:00 a.m. at La Iglesia de Santa Cruz in Santa Cruz, New Mexico. Mass will follow at 10:30 a.m. Burial services will take place at the National Cemetery in Santa Fe, New Mexico at 2:45 pm.

Serving as pallbearers will be: Jimmylee Vigil, Blaine Vigil, Frank Lujan, TJ Armijo, Vincent Vigil, Jason Cordova, and Michael Kanney.

The family would like to thank Enchanted Sky Hospice Nurses and Chaplain for their professional care.

The family of Cecilia Vigil has entrusted the care of their loved one to the De Vargas Funeral Home of the Beautiful Espanola Valley 505-747-7477.
