Catharine M. Garcia

December 24, 1934 — March 11, 2023

In loving memory of Catharine M. Garcia, who passed away on March 11, 2023.  She was a resident of Espanola, New Mexico.  Cathy was born on December 24, 1934, in Koblenz, Germany.

Cathy was preceded in death by her parents Nicci and Anna Esch; her sister, Josie Braun; and her daughter, Josee Marie Payne of Alaska.

She is survived by her loving husband, Joe G. Garcia; step-children, Carlos, Anita, and Christina, niece Nancy Braun; and nephew Danny Braun.

Cathy lived in Koblenz for the first 11 years of her life; during the worst years of WW II.   The family moved to Luxembourg after the war.  She came to the United States in 1960 and lived in Biloxi, Mississippi, then in Tampa, Florida where she met her husband, Joe.

Cathy and Joe moved to Espanola in 1980.  Cathy was active in the arts world; oil painting and sculptures.  She loved to garden, she loved her bird feeders, and home rearranging and decorating.  She loved traveling in their motor home across the country, and also into Mexico.  She loved living in Espanola!

Cathy was loved by many, especially her long-time friend, Virginia Pelham.

The family would like to thank her loving hospice nurse, Anna Dixon, who cared for her during her last weeks.

Funeral Mass will be held on Monday March 20, 2023 at 10:00 am at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Santa Cruz, NM. Burial to follow 2:30 pm at Santa Fe National Cemetery in Santa Fe, NM.
