Catherine (Cathy) Angelina Atencio

Catherine (Cathy) Angelina Atencio, 70, a lifelong resident of Dixon, NM, gained her angel wings on June 20, 2023, surrounded by her loving family. Cathy was the most wonderful sister, auntie and friend. She will always be remembered as the rock of our family.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Hector and Angelina Atencio, brother’s Hector Atencio Jr., and Florencio Atencio.

Cathy is survived by her sister Ruth (Tim)Vigil, brothers Peter and Jerry (MaryLou) Atencio and sister in-law Patsy Atencio, nephew’s Fabian (Tanya) Atencio, Armando Atencio, Hector Atencio III., Jeremy Benavidez, niece’s Charolette (Andres) Madueno, Lorena Atencio, Vanessa (Isaac) Benavidez and many more nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

Cathy is loved and greatly missed by all her family who were devoted to her care and well-being until her passing: Her niece’s Carrie (Onan) Sanchez, Valerie (Phil) Viarreal, Renee (Jeff) Lyon, Fantasia (Rob) Flores, Angeleah Sena, Sarah Sanchez, Renesa CarLee Maestas, Aria Wooten and Arabella Flores. Nephew’s CJ Maestas (Jaelynn), Marcos Maestas (Isabella), Mario Maestas (Delilah), Zeke Sena, Noah James Montoya, Wyatt Flores.

Special thanks to her devoted caregivers, Judy Mascarenas and Diana Pola.  The dedication and loving care you provided will not be forgotten.

When Cathy’s sight allowed her too, she loved to play and teach her nieces and nephews card games such as rummy, go fish, war and slap jack. Cathy enjoyed singing and listening to Loretta Lynn and the Blue Ventures.

Ms. Cathy was a jokester and always had a good come back that would make you laugh, her smile was contagious.  She had a passionate affair with ice cream, definitely enjoying every bite.  The more time you spent with Cathy the more you appreciate the challenges she went through, her nature was pure and happiness was huge with a small world around her.  She left us too soon but we will always appreciate the love she gave us and the great times we all shared with her.

On June 20, 2023 Auntie Cathy shed her earthly pain and made a graceful exit, surrounded by the love she had nurtured all her life. 

A Memorial Service will take place on July 3^rd at 9am at the Embudo Presbyterian Church in Dixon, NM. Burial will follow.
