Candelaria Romero, 86, a resident of Santa Cruz, passed away on Monday, January 31, 2022.


Candelaria was born in La Puebla, New Mexico on July 5, 1935. She was married to Joseph Vincent Romero for 35 years when he passed in 2008. Her parents were preceded in death by Melicendro Montoya and Felecita Martinez-Montoya of La Puebla, New Mexico.  Her husband, Joseph Vincent Romero; Sons; Lawrence and Raymond Archuleta;
Siblings; Antonia Vigil, Maria Vigil, Demecio Montoya, Manuel Montoya, Patricia Montoya, Eufelia Martinez, Modesta Padilla, Ascension Herrera, Flora Sanchez, David Montoya and Nephew; Leroy Montoya, and granddaughter Denise Herrera.
She was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great grandmother. She worked as a dishwasher at El Paragua Restaurant in Espanola, New Mexico,  a housekeeper at the Lodge of Vail, a Caretaker at Columbine Manor in Salida, Colorado and a homemaker. Family members said she especially loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. Candelaria and her husband loved to play bingo in many bingo halls, enjoyed going to the casinos, and she loved to go fishing.

Mrs. Romero is survived by her children, Eileen (Andy) Herrera of Chamita, Joann (Tito) Vigil of La Puebla, Niva (Jerry) Medina, Felix (Nadine) Archuleta,  Betty (Henry) Medina all from Colorado. God-Children; Dorothy Ann Medina and Kiara Quintana of Colorado; April Herrera of Espanola; and Archie Vigil of La Puebla; Brother; Salomon Montoya of Colorado and Sister; Carmen Vigil of Sombrillo; Numerous grand children, nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Honorary pallbearers are Willie Archuleta, Anthony Montoya and Jimmy Medina
Pallbearers are Joseph and Dominic Archuleta, Raymond Vigil, Elizabeth Herrera, Jeremy, Jerome, James and Brandon Medina.

A rosary will take place at 11 am  with the Mass of the Christian Burial to follow at 12:00 pm at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Santa Cruz, NM. Burial will take place after Mass at the La Puebla Cemetery. There will be a family gathering at the Knights of Columbus in Arroyo Seco.
