Brenda Lee, of Chimayo, passed away on Friday, January 8th, 2021, in her home with the company of her loving family. Brenda was born on March 28, 1960 in San Diego to Reuben Martinez and Marie Lopez, one of four children, having three sisters.
Brenda worked many years as a Student Aide in the Española area. In her work she made several deep friendships and touched the lives of many students, families, and staff, along with many family, friends, and others with her homemade tortillas, cooking and treats. For those she loved, she taught them her ways in how to do the same, in person or with a recipe, including on how to cheat. Brenda was a woman of faith, with the favorite verse: “Hebrews 13:5 For he himself has said, I will never leave you nor forsake you.”
Brenda was preceded in death by her parents: Reuben Martinez and Marie Lopez, her aunt Cisnel Lopez, and uncle Manuel "Manuelito" Martinez.
Brenda is survived by her husband Juan Avila, sons: Reuben Canales of Milwaukee, WI, Isaac Canales and wife Hayley Canales of Concan, TX, Ryan Bradshaw of Chimayo, NM, and her daughter Carmen Romero of Las Vegas, NM. She is also survived by her sisters: Leslie Guevara and husband David Guevara, Elizabeth Lopez, and Venus Lopez of San Diego, CA as well as grandsons: Jordan Bradshaw, Jasiah Bradshaw, Antonio Bradshaw of Chimayo, NM, Diego Valerio of Las Vegas, NM, granddaughters: Kiana Carter of Española, NM, and Jasmin Romero of Las Vegas, NM, special friend Christine Hollinger, as well as many many loved aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
A private family viewing was Saturday January 16 at 11:00 am. Final resting and celebration will take place later in the year when it is safe for family and friends to gather at her home in Chimayo, NM to celebrate her life.
