Beula "Bo" West

Beula “Bo” West, a resident of Los Alamos, passed away on Saturday, March 16, 2024. At age 96, Bo died peacefully in her sleep surrounded by her loved ones. Bo was born in Del Rio, Texas in 1927. She was preceded in her death by her parents, Frank and Fannie, and her husband of 58 years, Clarence “Woody” West. She is survived by her daughter Nancy (George) and granddaughters Caroline and Johanna (Aaron).

In 1947, Bo moved to Los Alamos from Albuquerque, where she grew up. Bo began working at the Los Alamos National Laboratory where she met Woody. They were avid birdwatchers, golfers, and hikers.  Bo and Woody were charter members of the Randall Davey Chapter of the Audubon Society in Santa Fe. Bo was a long-time member of the Los Alamos Women’s Golf Association and spent many years enjoying northern New Mexico as a member of the Over The Hill Hikers (Once you are over the hill, you pick up speed! Yes, she liked skiing too).

Bo was an active member of the community and made friends at each activity she joined. She will be missed by many. Bo had an enormous smile that would light up the room when she saw someone special. She enjoyed helping at the Shop On The Corner and was pleased when their donations made a difference to those in need. 

Her funeral will be held on Saturday, April 6, 2024, at 1:00 P.M., at Trinity on the Hill Episcopal Church in Los Alamos, NM, with the Reverend Mary Ann Hill officiating. 

In lieu of flowers, she would have appreciated donations made to the Pajarito Environmental Education Center or Friends of Bandelier.
