It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of Betty Jean Yates, a beloved sister, mother, grandmother, godmother, aunt, and great-aunt, who passed away peacefully on the morning of December 27, 2025, at her mother Andrea’s home in Nambe.
Betty was born on January 26, 1960, in Santa Fe, New Mexico, to George and Andrea Yates. She had a long career in accounting and proudly worked for her Pueblo, as well as for many years at the Santa Fe Indian School. Betty enjoyed sewing, embroidery, yard work, occasional trips to the casino, and relaxing with her cigarettes and Dr Pepper.
She is survived by her mother, Andrea Yates; her uncles, Herbert Yates and John Calvert (Evelyn); her daughter, Brooke Yates, and son, Christopher Yates; and her beloved grandchildren, Kiara, Chris, Kaleb, Dean, and Mia. She is also survived by her siblings, Debbie Reese (George Reese), Sandra Yates, John Yates (Isabel Yates), and Georgia Yates-Hampshire (Martin Hampshire), as well as many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Isabel and William Yates, Rex and Amelia Calvert, and her father, George Yates.
Sam will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
The family will be hosting a traditional burial at the Pueblo of Nambe Cemetery. Details to be determined. Any donations or food items may be taken to her mother’s home in Nambe.
