Bert H. Age - 58 - Chimayo Vigil

Bert H. Vigil, 58, a resident of Chimayo passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on Friday, April 12, 2013 after a lengthy battle with cancer. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bonifacio and Juanita Vigil; maternal grandparents, Severo and Julianita Martinez of Chimayo; paternal grandparents, Leandro and Higinia Vigil of Cundiyo; father-in-law, Manuel Manzanares; nephew, Jamie Vigil; brother-in-law, Richard Garcia. Mr. Vigil taught within the Española Valley for 25 years where his contribution towards teaching the students of the valley made life long lasting impressions that carry on today. His involvement for over 25 years with the Acequias de Chimayo, where he served in many positions. He loved hunting, fishing, horseback riding, farming, landscaping always growing beautiful flowers in his yard. He will always be remembered as a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and uncle who was passionate about his work, his family and especially his granddaughters. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. Mr. Vigil is survived by his wife of 36 years, Chanda Vigil; daughter, Juanita Vigil; son, Manuel Vigil; granddaughters: Alexis Vigil and Victoria Vigil-Duran; brother, Jimmy Vigil and wife Barbara; sister, Ida Mae Stevens and husband Carl; guardian, Euralia Vigil; cousin he loved like a sister, Julie Martinez and husband Ralph; mother-in-law, Elsie Manzanares; sisters-in-law: Veronica Silva and husband Johnny, Patsy Manzanares, Frances Garcia and companion James Ortiz; brothers-in-law: Frankie Manzanares and wife Carolyn, Anthony Manzanares; numerous other loving nieces, nephew, relatives & friends. Public visitation will be held on Monday, April 15, 2013 at 6:00 p.m. in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory with a rosary to follow at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, April 16, 2013 at 1:30 p.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church in Chimayo with burial to follow at Nuestra Señora de Dolores Catholic Cemetery with the following serving the family as pallbearers: Ralph, Seledon, Robert and Wilfred Martinez, Aurelio Camargo and Jake Martinez; honorary pallbearers: Alexis Vigil, Victoria Vigil-Duran, Anthony and Frankie Manzanares, Carl Stevens, Johnny Silva, James Ortiz, Charlie Esquibel, Andy Medina, Willie Vigil and Frank Vigil. The family of Bert H. Vigil have entrusted the care of their loved one to DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Española Valley.
