Benjamin “Benny” Marcelino Vigil, Sr. was born on July 25, 1957, and was called home by the Lord on April 13, 2026. Though our hearts grieve his passing, we rejoice in the promise of eternal life, knowing that he has received his heavenly reward and now rests in the presence of the Almighty.
A true craftsman by trade, Benny was a gifted carpenter who took great pride in his work. Above all, he was a loving and caring son, a devoted father and cherished grandpa. A lifelong resident of Chimayo, he held his family and community close to his heart.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Jose Inez and Marcelina Vigil; maternal grandparents, Benjamin and Cleofas Martinez; his father Pete L. Vigil, Sr.; brother, Tommy J. Vigil, niece Tamatha (Roybal) Vigil; nephews Peter Quintana; and James Vigil; as well as many special aunts, uncles and cousins. We take comfort in knowing there was a glorious reunion in heaven as he was welcomed into the arms of his loved ones.
He is survived by a large and loving family who will forever carry his memory in their hearts, his beloved mother Adelia M. Vigil; daughter, Leslie Vigil; sons, Marcelino Vigil and his family; Benny Vigil and wife LyAnn. He was a proud grandfather to Daisha (Daniel), Benjamin (Sarah), Kiana and Madyson and great grandfather to Grayson, Zachariah, Amelia and Aliana. He also leaves behind the mother of his children, Jill Judith Vigil, and her son, Jared Gonzales, whom he loved as his own.
He is also survived by his siblings: Jimmy and Helen Vigil; Marie Carter, David and Veronica Vigil; Frances Vigil, and Pete Jr., and Shirley Vigil. He held a special place in his heart for his Goddaughters, Lori Vigil, Jaelynn Maestas, and Daisha Vigil. In addition, Uncle Benny will be deeply missed by his many nephews and nieces, as well as great nephews and great nieces, all of whom were an important and very special part of his life.
Benny also leaves behind many close friends who were a blessing to him, Carol Parker, Sammy Martinez, Christine Chavarrio, Reynaldo Martinez, Dan Martinez and Cresencio “Chencho” Ochoa.
Family and friends are invited to join in mourning his passing while also Celebrating and honoring his Life on Friday, April 24, 2026, at 11:00 am at El Buen Pastor Assembly of God Church (609 Calle Rivera) in Espanola, NM. Burial will follow at the El Buen Pastor Cemetery in Chimayo, NM.
Pallbearers will be Jared Gonzales, Pete Vigil III, Dean Martinez, Rick Garrison, Jerry Romero and Robert Vigil.
A special and loving thank you to his daughter-in-law, LyAnn, for the compassion, devotion, and selfless care she gave so generously. The family also extends their deepest and most heartfelt gratitude to all who cared for Benny in his final days, including the Ambercare Hospice team and the medical team at UNM Hospital, as well as everyone who offered love, prayers, visits, meals, messages, and support. Your kindness, compassion and love will never be forgotten and will always be cherished. May God bless you all.
