Barbara Baca

d. October 12, 2023

Our beloved mother, Barbara Baca, 84, went to be with her Savior on Thursday, October 12, 2023.

Barbara was preceded in death by her husband Mario Baca, her parents Filadelfio and Marina Rodriguez, and sons Frank and Greg Baca.

She is survived by her children Marina Lopez (Robert), Anita Baca (James Lujan), Millan Baca (Michelle Montoya), Miguel Baca, Jacobo Baca (Lucia Anglada) and Lara Baca; brother, Jose Rodriguez; grandchildren Adrian Romero, David Lopez, Amanda Lopez, Alicia Lujan (Tyler Romero), Phillip Lujan, Katia Lujan, Pilar Baca, Esperanza Baca, Liliana Anglada Baca and Eliseo Anglada Baca; great-grandchildren: Maria, Joaquin, and Sofia Romero; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and compadres.

Barbara was a devoted wife to Mario, and a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.  She lived according to her Catholic faith and spent many years as a Eucharistic minister, catechism teacher, lector, mayordoma, and served on the school board for St. Anthony’s Parochial School.  Barbara enjoyed the years she worked as a nurse, caring for the elderly residents in the Española and Taos Nursing Homes, providing love and comfort to the patients and their families. Barbara loved being outside no matter the season or weather. Her green thumb helped adorn her home inside and out with beautiful plants and flowers, some of which still survive today.

Barbara's Celebration of Life will begin with a Viewing on Wednesday, October 18, 2023, at 6:30 p.m. at DeVargas Funeral Home followed by a Rosary at 7:00 p.m. (623 N Railroad Ave in Española, NM).  On Thursday, October 19, 2023, a Rosary will be recited at 10:00 a.m. followed by Mass at 11:00 a.m. at San Antonio de Padua Church in Peñasco, NM.  Barbara will be laid to rest at the Santa Fe National Cemetery on Friday, October 20, 2023, at 9:00 a.m.
