Augustina Romero
Age 93, a resident of Chimayo passed away peacefully at her home on the evening of April 24, 2025.
She was preceded in death by her husband Candelario Romero; parents Francisco and Sista Martinez; grandparents, Bonefacio and Natividad Martinez; son Harold Romero; brother, Meliton Martinez; sisters, Eduarda Martinez and Dora Espinoza; sisters-in-law, Gregoria Trujillo and Elsie Amaya, and countless other relatives.
Augustina was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who was devoted to the Catholic Church and a longtime member of the Altar Society. She welcomed everyone with open arms into her home, offering a warm greeting and a meal, even if it was just soda, cookies or tortilla. Agustina was loved and adored by many, she was thought of as everyone’s Grandma. Augustina enjoyed time with her family, especially her grandchildren, helping raise many of her grandchildren and great grandchildren. For the last several years Augustina was cared for in her home until the time of her passing by her daughters Esther, Gerldine, Linda, son Orlando and wife, Anita as well as many of her grandchildren. She was surrounded by family at the time of her passing.
She is survived by daughters, Esther (Bill) Duran, Geraldine Romero, Linda Romero; son Orlando (Anita) Romero, as well as 10 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren.
A Rosary will take place on Tuesday, May 6, 2025, at the Holy Family Church in Chimayo, NM, at 10:00am, followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:00am. Burial will take place Wednesday, May 7, 2025, at the Santa Fe National Cemetery at 2:00pm.
Augustina’s last wish was for all in attendance of her funeral to wear white, to symbolize hope, purity and the promise of resurrection.
